While Sanke are not my favourite a few have tickled my fancy. This one is from a spawn in 2002. Photo below in the blue bowl was taken last October. Size at the time was 16 inches. The photo next to it was taken last night.

It has put on a couple inches through this winter, about 18 inches now. Sumi has come up more and the beni is more solid. Pretty sure it is a male. http://www.canadiankoiandpond.ca/koigallery/jan-feb05/images/feb2005_24_jpg.jpg

Comments are sure welcome. Got any sanke's to share that tickle your fancy, post them.

WellI don't have a pic but certainly Ms Doodle has to be related to these as the face is so similar.

Nice!

I'm used to seeing your baby pics...you keep these fish indoors also? If you do, that must be a challenge.

I think Ms Doodle would be a cousin twice removed ;)

Busy, all our koi come indoors for winter months. Ian built another tank this fall to house the bigger one's in comfort. It's work with water chages but worth the effort.

We were sent a photo of this Sanke last spring and when Ian went "ohhh I like that" I put the order in to have it shipped :-)

Nice Sanke. I like the red pattern on the head and a very nice four step. I would like to see more black instead of all those spots..but it does look good.

How come every time I see shimmy's , shimmy, shimmy coco puff pops into my head...

In a perfect world, there would be none, but even fish with shimmy's need love too

Shimmies!!! Where???? !wow! This is still a young koi, there's lots of development going on, the sumi isn't near finished, it's just getting started ;-)

Finally got a shot of Ms Doodle so folks can see she is a cousin of Ian's Sanke. Not as good pattern wise but pretty fish nonetheless to me.

Well, I can definately see some hidden sumi under there on either side of the dorsal fin.. once that decides to surface she should balance out more pattern-wise.

:)

Yes, she has lots of sumi to come up as yet. Now if only she'd get rid of that ugly hump I'd like her more. Thought that it would go down over winter but if anything its bigger. I don't understand why some fish get this hump. I know Terri you tell me its a good thing, but its an ugly thing :frisbee:

Jackie, she is a young fish, this too will not be as noticable once she puts on some size, give her some time to grow into her "hump" LOL Her head will catch up eventually.

Well Elf is a young fish to and he doesn't have that ugly hump. Tweet and GG don't and never had humps. Actually I gave all my fish that had humps away :-?

I think doodles is coming along good. Seems to look well after the winter. As for the hump being ugly I don't see it. It shows to me to be a young strong fish. I am curious if a koi with a hump will grow to be a bigger powerful fish. May end up seeing it bigger than your chagoi in a few years. I love the head and face, and when the sumi comes up the pattern may balance out. Cool Jackie thanks for sharing.

Nice fish Jackie, I'm never sure if the patches under the skin are colour coming, or going, but what the hec, I don't know wether I'm coming or going either.

Yes, I love Ms Doodles face as well which is why I picked her. She like all of Brady's fish is friendly and calm in the pond. Certainly she will give Elf the Chagoi a run for his money for size. I saw them next to each other yesterday and she's closing the gap

Dewi, in this case it is colour coming up but you are right sometimes its colour going. I thought she'd lose that tiny red at the tail but if anything it looks stronger this spring. Hopefully the black continues to come up. It will show nice against her strong whites.

Yes, she does have very nice white, :-)

I was actually surprised at how good all the fish's colours were coming out of winter this year. In spite of two of them being sick they still weren't pale. Last spring they looked like they have been left out in the sun too long and had faded, mind in a week or so they looked ok.

I'll have to get a picture of one who was orange going into winter is is becoming red now. He'll be one to watch. Especially if the black comes up.
