Watering plants and killing aphids today in the greenhouse and was surprised to find the clivia starting to flower, early as it should flower in March

My grandmoter's xmas catus is starting to open. A month later than usual

A more modern hybird of the xmas catus, the blooms are more upright and they are larger.

Not in the greenhouse but my dwarf amarilys, the green isn't showing as much in the picture as in real life.

Of course no visit to the greenhouse would be complete with out one fish pic, here is the old guy caught in the act of playing in the current.

Sorry I was adding more pics while you were trying to view it, that's why you couldn't see it.
Just for you as I'm ashamed the mess it is in, not the water quality or anything just I like it to look pretty and none of the workings showing. Haven't accomplished that this year so to me it is an ugly mess.
The pond is outside 4x6x33" d holds 370 gallons

Noticed yet another bloom about to open. The cala lily on the far side of the pond

Thanks Werner, the strawberry pot TT goes out to the big pond each spring and comes in each fall. Bio balls inside but lava rock on the outside to make it look prettier.
The plant pot has a hose running into it from its own small pump making it a nice veggie filter plus there is the tetra bio filter and in case that wasn't enough for such a small pond I have a fibre prefilter on the 950 gph submersed pump.
This year wll see if this extra filtration without extra water volume pays off. There are 13 grwoing babies in there with old Tweet who is over 24 inches now. Lots of fish in little water is something I always advise against....

Jackie,
thanks....I think its lovely...I see nothing wrong with it.....
wow you have lots blooming right now...I only have a few trop. lilies blooming now..we had a really cold spell and since my stove isn't vented yet..the gas fumes burnt alot of the plants and alot of the others even dropped their leaves...they are slowly coming back on...

Wow Jackie... surprised with the blooms as todays sun that finally came out was the first in 13 days and a new record this time of year. Plus the cold snow crappy drizzle rain freeze all over stuff. What temp is the greenhouse? I want a greenhouse!!

Ian, I am also surprised with the blooms early this year compared to others but plants don't read the books. Lots of pond water to water them and they like it.
Lawanna, I lost quite a few plants this fall as the heater in the greenhouse was not working properly so the really tender ones have died. I do have some impatiens from the summer that are still in bloom. Starting to get spider mites now... tis the season.
I was thinking I needed to buy some colour to cheer me up but it seems my greenhouse is going to supply me with some instead.
BTW it was the thermostat and we fixed it so the heater is now working better than it ever has. Sometimes the simple solution is the right one.

Jackie, always great to see your greenhouse surprise pictures. Brings the warmth of spring into my bleak winters. My christmas cactus is also not blooming as a matter of fact it's just starting to put out buds. I think the lack of sun in the sunroom the last couple months may have a lot to do with it. I think we may have had only 3 days of sunshine in the whole month of Dec. it's been overcast and dreary all month.

The problem with winter is, the warm days are cloudy and the sunny days are colder than a.... never mind family forum here... Although I think watering them with the pond water really makes a difference for the blooms. 2 out of 3 orchids are budding up to bloom as well.
But Marla we are having lots of cloud and rain. Very nice day today though. A rare winter day when it is both mild and sunny. Out and about with the dogs to enjoy it. Foolish new pup fell into the pond twice today...first time was bad and I got wet pulling him out but the second time he thought he could skirt the edge, that didn't work either. Not his fault, mine. He hadn't gone near the pond until I let him off his leash and then he decided to chase the birds... So back on the leash again for the back yard. Hard for him to know its there since its mostly ice covered in snow.
