SO i posted this on another site but didnt get much response. besides i like this site better.
so what do you think of this fat fish.
I got this pic off a landscape site that i read. The guy said when he "popped it, it ooozed and orangeish goo"
I do not know any more than the pic and the goo part. so i cant comment on water parameters..sorry.

I have also seen one of these fattys on a customers pond before. This pond was fairly healthy a bit over crowded but water was decent. it was also a goldfish, it was real squishy felt like the skin was real thing and would burst with a little help.
Any ideas? i was thinking egg bound.. or some sort of parasite.

Sure looks painful!!!!

No redness of the belly and no sticking out scales so tumour or egg bound is my best guess. Repeat this is a guess. Redness of the belly is a sign of bacterial infection and scales sticking out usually means dropsey.

Orange goo seems more likely to be eggs but hard to tell without a followup pic. I had a goldfish that was fat fat fat who lived for 5 years. Finally it looked too painful to me so I put her to sleep. Didn't autopsey but for that long my guess was tumour.

Can fish get pregnant any time of year? My one orange and white pondfish looks really fat in the belly I wasn't sure if it may be constipated or pregnant. I read some where that goldfish are prone to constipation. Supposidly a bath of Epsom salts and water is supposed to help.

Goldfish are the rabbits of the fish world... need I say more

As long as it isn't bothering them my rule of thumb is not to let it bother me. Is she eating and swimming and socializing, then let be.

Just wondering how often it takes a fish to produce eggs for spawning? I guess I'm used to salmon and they are consistent as to when they spawn.

I'm trying to think how often the comets in the pond, did their thing this summer, but I guess it was only twice and the eggs were eaten.

Longer seasons than I have would have them producing eggs every couple months?

Goldfish can and do spawn more readily than other fish. When I had goldfish they'd spawn 3- 4 times a season. Now, was it the same female each time... I don't know but they sure made a lot of mess and a bunch of babies.
