No Ian did not build another filter (yet :grin: ), I've had this link in my favorites folder for a long time. Don't know the guy personally but thought his filter idea was good. Not to sure about the pvc shavings though :wink:

Looks like a problem waiting to happen, from what I know about cut pvc is it's sharp and it floats not to mention how many out there have a furniture lathe in the garage. If you where to take out the lathed pvc and add a bigger drain it looks like it would work good. Allen

I agree, shaved pvc would not be a media which I would choose,... doesn't even show on my list of "wants"... LOL
Bioballs, lava rock, nylon kitchen scrubs, hell even K-1 would work in this biofilter(with a few minor changes).
Can't understand why he used a 1" waste drain though... 2" would have made flushing quicker...

While Eric's filter is TOTALLY over done where DIY materials are concerned he deserves credit for his efforts and time it took.

I remember seeing that page before of the lathe setup...but not of the pond pics. Cool edging and wish I had that waterfall!

ya all haven't ever used "shaved pvc"..if ya had you'd know it works GREAT. (that is a preriod)
it doesn't compress. and it is easy to pull out and clean...if you ever need to
EDIT: and it sinks.Slowly sinks...if you areate it it might float

Isn't that just a cheaper version of the Springflow?

Guess cheaper depends on how much time it takes to turn on the lathe :wink:

I've swept up plenty of pvc shavings,.... sorry not the media for me,... pita :grin:
