Okay here I go feeling like a NEWBIE again. Since the storm my Butterfly Koi has developed a fine membrane or skin coming out of the 2 holes on their nose. I have never noticed it before the storm. I tried to snap a pic this morning. I will take another when I feed them this afternoon that will show it better. Is this normal?? Only my Butterfly Koi has this. One of them is very long and looks like eyelashes. The other one's are short but there.

Lot's of longfins get pompoms, this is pretty normal Cin. Some have HUGE poms coming from the nasal area and some have just little itty bitty ones. Our Butter has pompoms, and if you look at Jackie's pics of her fish you will notice them too. This is a genetic characteristic I think...

Yes, GG has pompoms. At first I thought they were lose skin and she had hurt herself but two the same cured that worry. BTW they often get feathered fins as you can see with Butter's picture. GG's are bigger but then GG is probably a bigger fish. When they start to feather they look like tears in the fins but its normal. With fish its always something scaring the wits out of you

Whew! Takes a load off my mind. Here I was thinking something happened during the Hurricane. Spot was the first one I noticed when we got back. I never noticed them before and his is the longest. I thought it looked almost like eyelashes  Thanks for setting my mind at ease :)

Sorry I couldn't find a better pic of GG's pom poms and feathering together.

I can see them in the pic Jackie. That is what they look like. It is odd one of the smaller butterfly Koi is Spot and his is the longest. Here I thought I was paying attention to them before the storm

I think they develop slowly enough that you don't really notice. Then one day!!!
