Sorry about the net reflection, lol! And no, he does not have a warped/defprmed gill plate, lol! I just managed to catch him as he turned and has it open as well...

We have mystery fish too, but at least I know the origin. I imagine you're sure it's a koi, but sure looks like this year's largemouth bass spawn to me. But I'm still a novice and until this spring didn't know a koi from a comet.

Smith said it looked like a bass and I'm inclined to agree but it is definately koi. Lost is bass look now but too fast to catch to see. I have a half dozen black ones though that evenin the sunlight you can't see them, just the pellet moving in the water while they nibble on it.

Do you think this description might fit?
Kin Kabuto/Kinbo (aka Ghost Koi, Silver Helmet, Devil Fish, Demon Fish) darkish blackish fish, scales have gold trimmings, murky/no distinct body patterning, head may have semi oval bright pattern/hoe pattern,
Gin Kabuto/Ginbo (aka Ghost Koi, Gold Helmet, Devil Fish, Demon Fish) darkish blackish fish, scales have silver trimmings, murky/no distinct body patterning, head may have semi oval bright pattern/hoe pattern,
Sakin (aka Gold Dust Fish) a Kabuto/Kinbo with speckles appearing like metallic dusting of fish body
