Hey folks... just found this forum today... and have question... how do i tell a male vs. female koi

I recently (beginning June) built a concrete 1825gal pond and added 7 kois... one of them is a kohaku, approx. 12inches.... and 2 others were those all gold varieities (sorry, I'm not too good with specific names yet) approx. 10inches...
The very next morning (end of June... I cycled the pond for a month prior to adding koi) , thousands and thousands of eggs... long story shorter, I left nature to play its course and ended taking the last 2 remaining fry inside to a 20gal aquarium... its been about 1.5months since hatching and the one i have left is probably coming up to 2.5inches

Thats the story behind my question... how do i tell male vs. female?

thanks

Females have a generally rounder shape than the males. Although in individual koi this can sometimes be hard to see especially in young koi. Many wait until the spawning starts then the females are easy to spot, they are being chased by the males.

This is another way to tell, the female has a second vent while the male does not. They are very close together so in small fish it is hard to see but in GG it is pretty clear.
