Anyone want a cannibal koi? We tried introducing it to our koi in qt last year and it wanted to suck the scales and fins off the other koi. So we brought it in and qt’d it in our aquarium with a goldie and it seemed to get along after chasing it for a few days and only sucked one fin off.

We put it in the big qt tank with some more goldies after we introduced the other koi to the big pond. It seemed to be ok. Now we released it this morning to the general koi population in the big pond needless to say it wanted to suck the fins off the koi. We pulled it from the pond and tossed it back into the qt pond. Any suggestions?

We had a batch of goldies do this once and we gave them away and I concluded that it was because the retailer left the dead goldies is the aquarium and did not feed them enough. Will this actually cause golies and koi to be this way? Allen

You have alot of patience! If I had one, that hurt my others, don't know if I would let him stay.

Don't know if it's a survival instinct or nutrient deficiency..how about oranges or watermelon so he could suck to his hearts content

In the bigger expanse of the pond and proper feeding he may stop this habit but it seems to me he should have stopped this by now

Jackie, I already tried that but the little twit just started chasing the vac around the pond. I think it was trying to show off. Now that I !bonk it a couple times all it does is sit in the corner and wait for it's next victim. I wish I could do that bonk it on the head that is.

Busy, I'll send it up to you and let ya deal with it's little problem. I was thinking a chicken leg but I'm afraid once it takes that to the bone it will just turn on something else.

I got a shipment of koi in a few years ago and everyday I would find koi with eyes missing then they would die. After a few days I took a few hours to keep a eye on them. !wow! I had one koi going around sucking the eyes out of the koi. That ended real quick.
