Pattern development

OK stupid question of the week here and yes I expect a prize :)

As folks know I have 8 baby koi in a tank so I am gettinga close up view of how they are developing where those raised in a pond or mud pond are not viewed so closely. A few of these indoor guys have developed a bit of pattern and some have not. Now my question is, is this the pattern that will be the base that the fish will always have or will this disappear. Not a well worded question but if pattern develops and grows and then disappears will the pattern at this young of age be the true pattern of the fish?

Just learning this myself Jackie. I've noticed that several of the solid red babies we have are now starting to show black spots and some even have the red breaking up. The kohaku babies though, they have not changed much, seems the pattern is "set". Those we've seem the most change in are the utsuri, they look nothing like what they did at 4 weeks old.

Well it seems like mom nature has answered my question for me. The little guy with the nice pattern is now as plain as his tank mates.... well not quite but he lost the charm already. How fleeting is beauty :lol:
