Well, it's almost done... here's some before, during, and "almost" after shots
The front yard last year(wow the grass was green!)

3 weekends ago:
No diggin' pics but here's the bottom pond. It's Mostly 12 to 14" deep, the lower section is 24" deep for lilies. Not to crazy about the lower postion of the garden, gonna change that.

2 weekend ago:
Top part is in, just a shallow pool with a little stream to the bottom pond.

Last weekend:
Couldn't take the lower garden so we expanded it and did the edging to match the other gardens.

Still lots of work to be done. We scored big time on some larger rock that I want to incorporate(means removing some of the small rock around the pond edge already!) and we have plans to add another upper tier which will have a water fall... not sure when we will do that.

That's what I call CURB APPEAL.
We wanted a stream also but we do not have enough room. If it was up to me we would have a mote all around the house.
VERY NICE, and the plants make it look like it's always been there

A mote, now there's an IDEA!
Glad you both like :-) Thanks!
It's sort of a mess water plant-wise, I just threw everything in... the last thing we wanted was pea soup and this pond is in full sun all day long. Next spring it wil be a bit more "neat" if there is such a thing LOL

Watergardens are not supposed to be neat... Looks good and I guess I shall expect you to come over and use the shovel you gave me soon :frisbee: Mind you shall have to keep me in mind when you split those lilies!! lovely.

I really like the sunken log edging. Our local garden supply has a concrete version, painted to look like that. Problem is that it's $10 for 18", and I'd need almost 50' of it to do what I want. No quantity discount available. I didn't put a raised edge on the front of our main pond, and still have to occassionally retrieve balls that our dogs roll off the deck. I was considering making the front resemble a slightly elevated boat dock, but my choice of wood makes it almost as expensive as the pre-formed concrete logs.
Kudo's to you, Terri and Ian. Your front garden is gorgeous.

It looks even better in person as you can appreciate how large it is. A lot of work went into that.

Looks great Terri!
I tried to count your w.hyacinths but gave up!
Do you just have all of your plants bareroot, tucked in between rocks?
any goldies in there?

Thanks Bonnie :-)
Water Hyacinth are become a weed around our place LMAO I gave 4 garbage bags away this past week, sold more today (forgot to bribe Jackie into taking a bag full)... I have no idea how many we have but the ditch is full, 2 watergardens are full, the fry pond is half full, the skimmer on the koi pond is packed!
Oddly enough the water lettuce has done very poorly this year, looks like crap and all are very small.
I have 50% bare root and 50% potted. Those big Arrowheads are bare root and sending out babies like mad! I keep 80% of the Iris bare root, but stuff like Bog Bean and the tropicals(Taro/w.poppy/parrots feather) are potted. Ofcourse the lilies are potted but next spring I'm going to try a couple bare root in the bottom, just going to throw some sand/clay mix and river rock in as a grow medium... unless I can get my hands on some hot fired clay pellets(used as a substrate for planted aquariums).
There are three 1 1/2" baby calico comets that we pulled from our koi fry pond(thought they were pretty enough to keep), seven 5"-8" butterfly, and several butterfly fry(who we saw this morning finally and are growing quickly).
Ian and our friend Sean built the water fall last weekend, it looks "nice" (<- means I'm not happy with it  )... has a soft flowing sound. I'll get some pics later...
Jackie, you're right.. a lot of work did go into this one. 75% of the materials came from our property - the rock, the wood, the dirt, the water  ... we lost a few pounds in sweat LOL

Yes Terri, pix please!
My WH bit the dust but my WL has grown like mad!
Okay stupid question here....... what's the difference between a calico goldfish and a shubunkin? Shub have longer fins and tails? Is a calico goldfish a cross?
Terri
08-14-2005, 06:01 PM
Shubbies have "blue" in them, calico comets do not - just red/white/black... and yes they are a cross between standard or sarrasa comets and shubunkins.
Still no waterfall pics, it's raining today.. but we did pull the fry pond so will post those photo's later

Terri w.Hyacinth are illegal here in Texas. If you get caught with one it is a $5,000 fine! They have completely taken over the lakes in Texas. They can't kill it out. So I don't think I am going to get any of them

Cin I'm aware that WH are outlawed in a few states and I understand why... but it is a shame for those who would like them... We have some nasty noxious weeds here too... but to me a plant is a plant and even the thistles are welcome !rofl
Ok Bonnie, here's the waterfall... honest opinions and suggestions for change appreciated by all !strut

The only thing I like is the back, it's a great spot for sedums to grow like the varieties of stonecrop and chicks'n'hens I like so much. I also like the sound, it is very soft, more of a trickling sound than crashing water.
Oh and look how's moved in!
