Hard to take pics when the action hadn't started yet:frisbee:
Yesterday called a dude with a gravel pit and asked him to come and take a look and give me a price for adding on to the driveway to make it circular. Easier for me to load the trailer and hubby to haul his boat. While he was here, asked him about digging out the pond at the same time.
Would of been cheaper to have the friend use his equipment but what this guy did in 4 hours was amazing! Knowing how to run the equipment is worth the money.
Gave us loads more parking space..cleaned up a crap lawn and access is a breeze now!dude He also moved the excess dirt into the back yard where we had plans for a teepee somewhere down the road. I actually like my back yard now!!
But now...for the best part:smile:

Sure did lift my spirits..if you can see the pond is empty:( The patches are in place from the last go round with Mama and I can fill it today. Need to get the pond plants and fish back in so I can build their winter home.
I'm taking my time with the new part. Was so excited to have a pond that hurried thru the process.
The large mound will be another waterfall:-) . Somewhere will be a skimmer and I had an area cut out for a settlement chamber like what's on Greg's CD. With the idea just like his of having it covered over with a hinged deck with a pergola/gazebo next to. Want to put a concrete collar around to hold some boulders for the edge. And a bottom drain too. Maybe a retro drain in the old part. Leaving the liner that's there, just have to fit the new over it.
I'm lucky...I have a big hunk of herculite (stout EPDM) which if Mama decides to get into, she can't puncture it. She could do a tap dance:lol: and it'll hold up.
Pictures will be slow coming because I'm not rushing into it. This time I'm researching more first and building as I go.
Still...it's a start!dude

Busy would a raised edge keep the moose out. Say maybe 18", high enough to be a deterrant... nice to sit on...

Ok, because I'm newer tell me why are you building again? Are you adding onto or just making a new one? The original onel looks big the new one looks bigger and much deeper. What are the gal. of each? Whatever looks like it's going to be a piece of paradise when your done.

Raised edge, I don't think would make much of a difference to Mama..they have loonnnngggg legs. And they can jump. Have an idea to fence the back portion where she has access and a couple other parts...other than that, change where I park my car
I'm adding on Marla cause when I first started buying koi I didn't realize the size they become  I have my quota now, and even tho their mutts, I don't plan on getting rid of any just trying to give them a bigger home. And I'm underfiltered. The pump and setup I have is not turning the water over fast enough and there's not much of a way to get the sediment/muck out of the water so that's why I'm going to try a settlement chamber/drain and see if I can make it more functional. Right now, I have 2600 gallons and 15 koi under 12 inches. If they grow to the size where I can't take them inside anymore for the winter, I also need to give them a better home to make it thru the winter. Don't know what I'll end up for final gallons cause I have to bowl the inside of the new part and will lose some volume that way.
Did start shoveling tho last night

Didn't know if a raised edge and a deep drop would discourage them. I know that they are rather on the large side :frisbee: but even elephants watch where they put their feet...

Yeah..this thread was from last year:roll:
Shows you how fast I get things done!
Since I have no time in the summer to play in my own yard, this is as far as I got..
And I don't know how to narrate and post pics between so I'll just tell you what I did..
The backhoe had dug a spot for where I wanted the filter pit to go..I dug it out further *with a shovel* and built a box..since I plan to cover it with a deck, I needed a wall for support and to put the liner against. Sooooo...some sauna tubes and 4 x 4's, I built a wall. Bottom drain is in place but I just sealed it up for the winter. The barrels will be the filters fed by the drain...next year I'll do the plumbing. Didn't want to leave it sitting there for the winter when that was as far as I was going to get. A box on the side of the pit will hold the pump and I'll dig a line and attach it to the biofalls. The skimmer will feed a skippy...
We'll see how far I get next year..poor fish..still stuck in the greenhouse.

Busy, very professional looking. How are the fish doing? You may have to expand their winter quarters.
