Clearwinged sphinx moth!! I rescued a larvae stage a while ago and got busy and forgot to check on him... darn!! Part of the tomato hornworm family and as such being ugly folks kill them off pretty darn quick!! Shame because the moths are wonderful. Host food is honeysuckle and vibuniums.

Marla the gardens look wonderful, so much colour. What is the name of the blue clematis, looks to have a pale blue stipe. The pond is lovely, you have one of the best waterfalls.

OK posting at the same time :-P

What is the name of the yellow lily, must take a pic of mine but it looks paler, that is a nice yellow.

I'd have to see if I kept it I'm bad at that. One yellow we got last year from the pond place, the other was a cheap $4.88 tuber from Wal-mart this year. Not even sure which one I took the pic of. As for the clemantis, havent' a clue. We had a friend that drove for a nursery about 12yrs ago and one morning I woke up and there on the driveway were 12 clemantis and other plants. None with labels, but it has the largest bloom of the 3 purples. Also there were some in the majenta/fushia tone They have finished blooming already. Every thing this year is short lived, to hot, not enough rain. But we did get 9/10ths today, first in weeks. I need to get to bed, have to work at 6am, that means get up at 4am YUCK! But then only one more day and it's vacation, not doing anything special, yard work, and house cleaning out.

Marla, I'm with you on the heat and dryness. We did get rain on the weekend so I'm getting a break from watering everything but it is very hot for us this time of year so the plants are up and finishing quickly. Even the August plants are starting to flower now... I may have nothing left to bloom in September!!! 80F on the covered patio when I got up this morning. No wonder the gardenlooks weedy, to hot to work!! well that's my excuse.

I cut down the lilac yesterday and redid the little side bed there. But digging out the roots of the lilac will have to wait until fall. I'm not working that hard in this heat. Its too big for the space it was planted in and the car has a hard time getting by it so it had to go. Nice trellis if I can get hubby to build one will replace it. and yes my favourite a clematis to grow up it!

Having a hard time here keeping our plants happy too... perennials are doing better than the annuals.

Marla your photo's are great, even with the lack of rain everything looks wonderful.

Jackie if the yellow water lily is the walmart one it's Sulphurea yelow. I had also gotten a pink one, Fabiola pink but it turned out to be white. Can't find the names of the white, pink and yellows I got last year from the ponding store. I do have a pink from Menards this year that is Nymphaea Attraction but it hasn't bloomed yet.

I also have Attraction, somewhere in the pond Ihope. Maybe she hasn't bloomed here yet either.. unless this is her. Bonnie will know. To me they all look alike just haven't spent the time to learn the varieties.
