I have a koi who changes colour from year to year. She was almost black last year but this year the orange red glows like a fire at night. Is she just a mutt that falls into the catchall or is there a name for this type.

The picture isn't the best and doesn't show the metalic gleam but gives an idea of what Cooper looks like

I would hazard a guess at kin hi utsuri if Cooper where to be classified, essentually a metallic version of hi utsuri, Cooper is doitsu.... but what do I know :-? Really there is no utsuri patten there ...? At any rate it would be in the Hikari utisurimono as it's metallic and has more than one colour, base colour being black...(showa and/or utsuri lineage)? Maybe Hikarimoyo-mono but there is no platinum colouring... that you would typically see?

Well she spawned for the first time this year so we will see what kind of mutts she throws. Unfortunately, all the females spawned at the same time or within days of each other so no telling whose babies are who's but by the number of yellow ones i think the big matsuba Tweet had some of the action !rofl

To think she was sold to me as pure Japanese... !bonk

Marla you are exactly right. She does look like she glows from within. Forest fires at night!!! no wonder I love my mutts, they have their own beauty.

Proves beauty is in th eye of the beholder, an expert would have her gasping on the grass instead of being enjoyed by me.

I love my 4 legged mutts as well even though technially they are not mutts they sure are not show dogs
