Befor I start, I would just like to say. This post will probably be moved to its correct location, but untill then.
The first year I had fish, perhaps you too, I was more concerned with Keeping them alive than being able to see them lurking at the bottom.

Once I had achived the above other thing became a concern,
Water like pea soup was common, it was then I found fish forums, people with knowledge, someone who might help.
Because no matter what you might learn from books, first hand knowledge & experience cant be bought.

Because of my experience in Engineering I knew that to get consistency with my water quality it had to be filtered, the best way to filter anything is by a process or stages
One filter is not enough, if you use one it will be a short time befor debris from the pond will just circulate making you rfilter no matter how good irrelevent, cleaning of filters therefor is essential.
Also filter baskets are used where larger debris can damage pumps or block them.
I know you will say that most pond pumps come with some kind of protection, tis true, but its not enough, I made my own makeshift filter basket and connected it via a hose to the pump inlet, this worked, since, I have bought a filter that is especially made for connecting to the suction/inlet side of your pump, it works, clear water, Jackie, if this post is Irrelevent, please send it to a rival board. :-?

Not at all Dewi...I'm all ears...

Have pictures of your filter basket?

Is it in the pond, or outside of it?

Dewi I would be interested in seeing what you've come up with... please do post some photo's. We're just now doing another pond int he front yard, a water garden - it will have a submersible pump... so what ever idea you have I think we all would appreciate more details ;-)
