I guess there is about 40 gazzillion fry in there!! Are these new fry, in a new pond or the previous fry moved to a new pond? Do you have two mud ponds full of fry now?
Hey Jackie
Yes, this is a new pond with new fry. Talk about a gluten for punishment!

You mean you went and got some culture Luke... the world must be ending.
Keifer I saw my first fry in the pond the other day and today they look double the size... Can't believe how fast they grow.
Its a neat experience Jackie. Just dont wait to long to cull them and keep a few that are the very best. It is very interesting to watch them grow and develop. Am going to go check your other posts to catch up.

Keifer I already did the major cull.... any egg that wasn't fast enough or smart enough to avoid the shop vac got culled!!!
I have 8 in a tank now, 5 yellow ones and 3 brown ones, too small to see if they are fine or not but they all swim and eat and eat and eat. BTW I know why the bright coloured ones are the first to be eaten by preditors, they are the stupid ones. Swim near the top and are netted easily. The brown ones were further down in the water and fast as the dickens...
Thats a fact. The last koi to be caught in the ponds are the darker ones.
They are consistantly the most clever. Dunno why? Just the way it is.

Perhaps they are closer to the original carp and the brains or instinct hasn't been bred out of them.
In any event we are having fun watching them in the aquarium. I can see by your pictures I'll have to open the greenhouse pond early this year. These guys won't stay small enough for the 29 gallon tanks for long.
Smith, my hubby, says theylook like guppies
Actually Jackie, raising them in the aquarium will actually stunt their growth.
Many people in other countries prefer to keep their koi in aquariums and call there fish bonsai koi.

I realize that these guys, provided they live, will not be as large as the pond guys but they are easier to catch now than in October when my big guy needs some company for the winter. There is more out in the pond and it will be interesting to see the differences. I'll try to give them enough to eat and exercise and with only 8 they have lots of room.
And don't be telling people there are bonzia koi, folks will want them
