Well the last thing I expected to be doing at 05.30 this morning was working on the pond http://12.freebb.com/images/smiles/k99a1_11.gif . I went out to check the fish as normal before going to work, only to find that my main pond had 12" of water left in it. The pipe to the waterfall had come adrift during the night. http://12.freebb.com/images/smiles/k99a1_11.gif. Good job I use a submergable pump with a floating cut of switch for the filter.
Well I had two choices, net all the fish and move them back in to the temp pool , or declor and fill the pond with the fish in it. http://12.freebb.com/images/smiles/k99a1_15.gif . I decided on the later. I filled a 20 gallon container with pond water , added the declor and put the container in the pond, and am now running the new water via the container back in to the pond.
There was aprox 100 gallons of water left in the botom of the pond, heres hoping I made the right choice on leaving the fish where they were.

Ok 1 hour later pond is filling, Koi are imitaing Shamu by swimming up on to the second level of the pond, which at present only has 2" of water covering it, then swimming back in to the deeper part of the pond. Now this is gonna be at least an 80% water change is there anything I need to be aware of.
And to top it all I am now having a bad tooth ache, now this is where I reach for the clove oil for my own use. :-)

While it is a dramatic change out the fish should be fine, it's the green water that may follow.... and if the filter was dry for too long you may get a blip in WQ. It's a wait and see thing atm.
Sorry about the tooth ache.
p.s. posting at the same time gives me the creeps ;) and don't ask what I'm doing up so late.. LOL

Ok Teri I will not ask , the time in the Uk is now 07.49 and it looks like it is gonna be another hot day. I am not sure who is more stressed at the moment me or the Koi, but by the look of these two who are happily playing at a game of chase across the second level of the pond ( only 2" of water there when the shot was taken) I think it might be me  .

Yes sir reee it was me :-) , Pond now full after 5 hours of filling. All the fish have been up for food so that is a good sign, just got to do my water checks .
Total water replaced 1.543 gallons !wow! added declor for around 1,800 underestimated how much was left in the bottom of the pond.

Merlin, the fish will probably be happy with the water change, they often are, even at such levels. Nothing like an empty pond to make ones heart start in the morning!!! been there several times now that I think of it.... duh! Now those fish certainly look happy. Good looking guys! One hopes it doesn't trigger a spawn.:frisbee:
Now the thing to worry about is how to secure the pipe so this doesn't happen again.
My father who ran a bait shop for years has two sayings one is Fish just like to die; and the other is; water likes to escape.
Sorry about the tooth.

They look good :-) Better to have underestimated than the other way around.
