So who uses them? What brand name?

I ordered a Pentair UVC(Rainbow Lifeguard) 3 weeks ago and it's apparently on back order so the pond is still GREEN! Anyone have one of these units?

Everything I read(marketing hype?) says Aqua Ultraviolet is the best on the market today. I've looked at the Zapp Pure UV that Tom mentioned but out of my price range right now.

There was a time when I would have said "No UVC for me"... but that was when we had a mature pond with fish in it all year round. Now our pond is "seasonal", just used in the warm months and completely left barren in the winter... this has put a stunt effect on it's maturation... I'm fed up with only seeing our koi when they are a few inches below the surface... I want clear water damn it! !bonk

Terri when I started looking at UVc and UVs it got real confusing to me. Someone on another board said they had a FishMate that worked well. I ordered the Fishmate and that is what runs our step waterfall. Our setup is really out of the ordinary as you know. I didn't think it would be enough even though it was rated for 2K gallon ponds so I ordered a Pondmaster to run off one of our pumps. It is the kind you can put under water or out of water. We got the Fishmate going with a 16W bulb. Before we could put the big UVs 40 watt into service it all cleared up. So we have the big one on the shelf. I did have to send the Fishmate back for sercive once but they got it right back to me in a few days. While it was down we used the 40W. It got a little cloudy. When we put the Fishmate back in service it was clear in a few days. The directions said it could take 2 weeks and it started clearing an 2 days and by end of week 1 was so clear it hurt your eyes! We also kicked off the big DIY filter at the same time so both is probably what cleared it. I think I gave $130 USD for it. We gave $200 for the one that sits on the shelf !rofl At night my fish look suspended in air the water is so clear.

Stop letting Ian feed the fish, the water will be clear in 4 days!! Not only will you save on food, you'll save on the cost of the UV.

Not super clear but no uv either!! One can see the gravel on the bottom at almost 5 ft.

Don't know about that one Terri...did read somewhere that Savio has a recall on theirs.

For some odd reason...my pond is clear. 3rd season. Can't say it's a maturity issue cause I totally drained and cleaned and refilled. Would have to search threads to see when I did that. Been way more diligent in cleaning the filters and the only difference is my poor little makeshift skimmer. But the crud I have pulled out of it  All I can guess is the organics aren't sitting there in the bottom rotting.

Does the size of the fish in the pond have anything to do with the 'clear factor'? Is it possible that the small load (meaning small fish) I had for the last couple years, weren't putting off enough ammonia for the bacteria to do their thing? Now that they are bigger, could that be making the difference or am I just losing it?

Busy, did you bring the greenhouse filter outside... I think that would have more to do with it than anything

Savio UV's only go into Savio skimmers so far as I know... we build our own skimmers ;-)

3 1/1 weeks ago we could see 3 feet down. With all the repeat spawnings, heavy rains, and lack of good algae on the pond walls the green water is in full force.

See what city life will get you. No heavy rains and no spawning... well one heavy rain... but the rest of it was just plain cloudy and spitters.

Can I ask a few questions? How large of a pond is this? Also, what are you using for filtration on the pond?

Myself I don't like some of the units out. But I do like the Aqua units and the Zapp Pure.

Yes, I do have the Zapp Pure and if I had to do it again I would buy it again. But the are not cheap.
