Weather here has been hot, and so are water temps. Fri. I did a partial water change (water has gotten green again) all went well so I thought. I forgot and turned off the small pump to the upper pond and all the water drained back to the lower one. I was not paying attention. The small goldfish in that pond were fond in a dry bed, I lost three, two survived. Today I noticed they both had white fuzz on what looks to be sores, probably from thrashing in no water. Is this a bad thing and should I qt them because the water does circulate to the lower pond, or is it a healing and not bother the other fish. I feel bad enough about killing the other 3 but I don't want my bigger fish to get sick.

Marla, I'd keep them separate for now, mostly because then you can see if they get better or worse and act easily rather than trying to treat the entire pond. especially since the other fish don't need it.

I am sorry to hear about the goldfish. Still, it reminds us to check our connections and habits so we learn from the experience. But I do hate it when it happens to me. So I'll check my perched cannister and fix it.

Sorry to hear of your loss Marla, I agree with Jackie to keep them seperated and keep an eye on them.

Is your top pond shallow ? , I am trying to work out why you lost all of the water.

Thanks, they are doing better the one, I think is albino red eyes and all, has no more redness and the white fuzz has gone, healed well. The other one the fuzz by the upper fin is gone, but his belly still has some red sores and fuzz. Both are eating well and behaving normal.
Merlin, our small upper pond is about 15" deep at the most. It is on higher ground then our other pond, there is a seperate pump that pulls water from the skimmer of the lower pond through a hose to the bottom of the upper pond and a gravity hose that runs out the upper side of the other end back into the lower pond. Thus when I accidentley unplugged the little pump the water drained back down bottom hose and into the skimmer through the little pump I pressume. I did learn a good lesson, and am sad I had to do it at the cost of lives of little goldfish, even if they were just cheap feeder ones.

Marla, sounds like they are on the mend. Keep them separate for a bit longer. Did you salt the water?

been a while since I've been online. The only survivor of this ordeal is pinky the little albino, it is healed and back in the pond. It has become very shy again, think it needs some buddies. The other one took a turn for the worse, on closer inspection it had almost completely lost it's pevic fin on one side and also had another large ulcer on the belly, it also had a large ulcer infront of it's dorsal fin. To insure this does not happen again either by me or other power failure, my husband reinstalled the extention piece so the incoming water now bubbles at the surface and can no longer siphen back down to nothing.

Glad that things are fixed. Its sad that we have to experience a problem first hand in order to recognise it is there in the first place. Still it happens to all of us.
