Here are a few pictures of our ponds, we built them buy our selves one shovel full at a time. Please remember I still have lots of landspcaping to do, and working full time it's hard to accomplish. In the first picture you'll notice the small upper pond is not open yet, however my hubby opened it this weekend, and added 5-2" goldfish he got from the "death tank" at Petco. We fill the small one with lots of plants. There is a small pump in the skimmer that pumps water to the upper pond, through a hose, and then there is a gavity hose that removes water from the upper pond down the waterfall and back into the large pond. There is not a filter in the small one the water just flows through. We have to keep the gravity hose covered with mesh or something because last year we had some of the small fish get sucked through the gravity hose ("Nemo'd") and down the waterfall to the big pond. The big pond is approx. 21'x13'x30", the small pond is about 7.5'x3.5'x15" We use a 7500 pump, my husband wanted a powerfull falls, I think we could have gotten plenty power with a smaller pump, but after 3 yrs of trying to talk him into building this I let him have his way and as for now he doesn't care that the electric bill is high, that's why he works overtime he says. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v729/grandmavis/2003_0607pond20012.jpg

WOW Marla, that's a lot of pond! Looks great, can't wait to see it planted up and full of fish. I think in the long run you'll be glad you have the larger pump.

Marla, you did Q these fish right???? Since the two ponds are attached via water... the parasites will move into the lower pond.

The ponds look lovely. I still love that waterfall. The two of you did a very nice job. Looks like all the landscaping needs is time to grow.

Jackie, the answer is NO!!! he did it while I was gone for the day, he didn't even acclamate them just dumped them. I was so mad and he heard it  . He admits he wasn't thinking very good. I do have a spare bottle of Desafin, didn't know if I should use it now or wait if I see problems arise. I am keeping a close eye. Please let me know if there is something else I can do.

Everyone else thanks for the compliments, when you do it yourself it's doubley nice to here.

Cross you fingers and hope for the best but do check them each day, not a hard job, requires sittin by the pond for a half hour  No sense giving them meds they don't need. Make hubby buy more plants as punishment

I love checking on them this year, they are all so friendly, I have the new koi eating out of my hand already, even the shubs and goldies will. The koi we had last year were alot more skiddish, and the goldies were just to small. Hard to see the ones in the little pond, they tend to hide yet. Crossing all my extremities, Hubby has told me a couple times a day or when he sees me by the pond, "Yeah I guess that was pretty stupid". So for his sake everything better work out.

Well the good news is he has learned his lesson, one hopes there isn't a price to pay. Still you have meds on hand and friends as close as your fingers can type to help you out.
