It was a beautiful weekend here, Sat. I went to our local pond store to get some plants (my water is finally looking less green). I get there and he asked if I was taking the fish also, SURPRISE, my husband had picked out 2 small 5-6" koi, and a 8" shubunkind and had them QTed there. Then on the way home my daughter called and was on here way up to see me, SURPRISE #2, I had other plans but who can turn down seeing a grandson. So after a fish release and photo opp with my grandson (Tae) we went to the outlet mall and I shopped for his 1st birthday. Things got pushed back a day, but yesterday was just as nice and I did more gardening then, surprises are nice and I needed them.

The shubunkin is the largest fish in the pond right now. This picture does not do it justice, it looks so blue when at the top of the water. It also is the friendliest one, it will come up and suck my fingers and take food, still working on the koi. The orange and black koi, is shyest, and picky about food, right now turns his nose up to pellets, but loves the string algae that is starting in the pond, but that's ok he can eat as much as he wants. I want to get one more koi, but it'll have to wait a couple weeks.

I'm missing having some small babies (fish) around.. the big guys are nice but there is nothing like babies... gosh now I sound like I want them to spawn which is far from the truth...

How sweet of your hubby! I too like the shubby...but the pics of your grandson are the best! Future ponder there!

Have you showed us pics of your whole pond? That is a really nice waterfall...what size pump are you using?

Awesome fin-kid and skin-kid pictures, Marla. My 5 year old would love to be allowed to dunk his feet in the pond. It gave me a great idea on a use for one of my dead corners.

I'll try to get some new pictures this week. Last year when we built it we had a beautiful 17 yr old maple behind it. However it had a trunk split at the fork that ran almost the length, and so my husband cut it down. I think half of the reason was he hated the leaves, I really miss it. He replaced it with 2- 14 ft. White Spruce and we also move some arboritives to one side to help block the poplor leaves from getting in. I did talk him into moving a maple from the woods to the south east corner of the pond, because the leaves will usually blow the oppisite way. Busy we use a 7500 aquascape pump. It might be a little over kill for the pond, but my husband wanted the falls to be a bit more forceful.

That explains it then

Your falls look like they have power to them...and sound! I need a new one for mine..it sounds more like a meandering creek instead of Niagra!

Those leaves can be a pain, can't they?
