ok guys, got the liner tuesday, 25 x 30
used carpet underpading and wood flooring underpading
to cover the raised portion of the pond,
sides are lined with styrofoam,
bottom 6" of sand covered with geotex
extending across the concrete around the drains,
rolled it out on the lawn, folded to fit and unfold easy
dropped in spread out, 6000 sealed the drains.
filled approx 2' watching for leaks (and let it warm up)
before, here it is ***folding corners***

is there any tips tricks secrets.....need to know fast...

Sorry answered on the wrong thread... been out working on the pond myself most of the day.

I used the old hosptial corners for the rectangular pond. make sure the excess gets folded under so there is only one taping point if you are going to tape. There was a year or more ago on Koivet an entire thread on how to fold the liner.

Congrats on getting the rebuild going!!!!

personally i don't like hospitals..
here's what i got...

-find the corner 'center'
-hold the center down while flattening
the liner wall towards the center point
-when the 2 points meet hold both together
(hold the wall under the 'center' with the same finger)
-flatten the excess away from the center along the wall

do both directions as equally as possible

(all rights reserved, pending pictures, spell-checking and a cd ;)

thanks all..

At first, I got pretty anal about trying to neatly fold all those creases. As other priorities during filling arose, I just had to let the water pressure flatten the liner out, and was able to adjust the top few visable feet. I was reminded that once the algae covers the liner and colourful fish catch the eye's attention, and as long as the liner isn't stretched grossly distorted or in danger of being punctured, who the hell cares about a few lines and creases ????? Am I wrong ?

i think i figured it out,
the way i was doing it you see the excess
(looks like a triangle) from the bottom of the corner
to the top edge.

i tried again last-night, but put the excess
behind the liner, this way you don't see the excess.

now just have to get in the water for final folding...
lasted 3 min the first night.. !wow!

Hey Dave, not to mention the beers, you see even less!!

(mine is a formal pond, you will see the folds and creases easily, i'll pop a pic and post it tonight)

Since there isn't a "formal" straight line or corner in either of our ponds, and if I'm in hospital someone else is making the bed, so I can skip Hospital Corners 101....and ask how long does a newly installed EPDM liner need to "set", before I can trim the excess and start on my edging ?

thanks Greg... i already filled her up with a different fold..
most of the way, i have a leak in the vortex... go figure..
you can see the pond, dogs or grass growing
need to refreash...

i don't think you need to wait Dave.

I saw a koi pond build by some professionals. 6' deep, made with rubber. It was narrow, so there would have been lots of folds. They had taped the folds. It looked awsome.

here's a pic of the corner of my inside rectangular pond, not pretty when empty but I've never found a fish hiding in the corners either.
