is a sad sight indeed:(

Too worn out to do much of anything yesterday so I bought a new sump pump and drained the pond. Early in the day, went back outside after my lunch break to see a moose chomping on a shrub...scared it away..saw hoofprints to the pond...new hole!bonk right next to the others...found 4 holes total..most of them high on the liner. Since the water had dropped lower than the holes, must be the patch job from last year..will have to figure that out and try and seal it up again.

Nope!!! it is time to move  Or at least a good excuse to move. he he he

If you move:
1) you can move where it is warmer and has a longer pond season
2) you can move where it is much easier/cheaper to have things shipped to you
3) you can move where there are no moose

That way you can save $$ and the time/labor of putting up a fence

He/she/it needs to be up on a wall if you know what I mean.
KOI ponds are definately not a place for them.
Glad we don't have them down here.

Busy B this is a good thing that the moose did this damage. Now you can make the pond a lot larger.

One nice thing about the big city is no moose here. It sound like a good time to take up another hobby along with ponding. How about this one?

Any moose that ventured that close to our pond would soon be joined by fried onions, garlic and roasted potatoes. And I thought I had it bad losing my battle to herons, mink and coons.....LOL

I don't know if it works on moose, but I've used electric cattle fencing for all kinds of containment. Didn't take the dogs, deer and geese to learn. Now, speaking from personal experience, moose aren't the smartest of creatures in the forest. How they manage to hide 1,500 lbs of themselves from me for the week of moose hunting season, and then show up on Sunday (after the season is closed) does make me wonder if there isn't some level of intelligence higher than the guy who sits quietly alone in a remote forest for 6 days and sees nothing more than the mating rituals of chipmunks ..LOL

 Dave that is exactly how it works here too! Hunting season rolls around and not a moose in sight...days later..their everywhere..

The fence has been on hold while I've been deciding on making the pond bigger. More of a how am I going to...can't join liner, can't put a new liner in...(not without alot of hassel anyway)...easy way to go would be dig a new pond and make them look connected. And no one can remember if where I plan on digging is where we buried the tree stumps when we cleared the land.

Trick for a fence is that it has to be at least 8 foot high...silly things can jump pretty good..A month or so ago, the news showed a pic of a moose impaled on a iron fence..tried to jump it and got nailed..*it did live...they tranqualized and cut the fence and it wandered off when it came to*. I have the idea for the fence...it's just time to grab a shovel or rent some equipment and start digging..All mostly a matter of time..

Having once almost backed a running skidder over a moose who was chomping on the fallen branches, Bullwinkle impaled on a fence isn't beyond the realm of the imagination.

I use two methods for calling moose, both really stupid, but both work well. One is to pour a tomato juice can of water slowly into a marsh, much like the sound of a running waterfall. Suppose to imitate a cow moose pee' ing. I don't know if that's what it sounds like to them, but they seem to come.

And the other is so silly, but it works. I have this old wind up alarm clock that makes a hell of a ticking sound. I wind it up, put it in a moosie area, and sit down with a good book. Something about moose being curious, but it works !!!!!! Maybe they come to see if they can hit the snooze button.. LOL

I don't have a problem getting them to come Dave ...the trick is getting them to stay away!

Tomato juice huh?

I keep a radio playing...apparently they like the oldie but goodie channel !rofl
