I had to feed the babies on the run yesterday and didn't really get to look at the koi, but Sunday all seemed well.......

Today I went out to feed them and it sure looks like one of my koi has SAP or another type of fungus.

This was a koi which I purchased last year. He originally was silver and turned a very dark brown with just a touch of gold on his fins.
I originally thought that he was turning silver again but what I could tell it looked more like a fungus.

I've got to try to catch him tomorrow, green water and all because my UV light went out.

Suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks

Bonnie if it is fungus then wiping it off and applying a bit of iodine or a pp paste will fix it. Give the area a good clean before applying. If it is sap then MG is the best bet although if caught early enough iodine or PP will do the trick.

Good article on Sap at koivet written by REC.

Thanks Jackie, Yes I read the article by REC several times, very good.
When you say "iodine" you do mean the red iodine that can be put on human wounds?
Doesn't this really sting when it's applied?

Now I just have to try to catch him, the green water sure doesn't help things.

Thanks again!

He's in your big pond? If so, that's gotta be a chore to try and catch.

yes the same iodine, yes they jump when you put it on so have a firm two handed grip. Although I did two fish yesterday, just the fins and they didn't even twitch. Just held them enough out of the water to get at the parts I wanted. Iodine is pretty instantanious so a couple of seconds and off they go again. I count to 20.

There's an entire school of thought out there that claims fish don't feel pain.... I hope they all come back as abused fish !bonk

Well I've been trying off and on all day to catch him. Unfortunately it has to be one which is more skittish and doesn't come as close to me as some of them will. BAD FISH! :-x

I've got to get a closer look at him. It's so hard to tell if it's a fungus or if the koi is changing color. It's on both sides.

Fish don't feel pain, I'll be darn............

Thanks again Jackie, you're always a great help Unlike Busy which won't come and go swimmin' with me!
