Late last year I was at a local breeders. He has been having fun breeding koi for years now, and I have got a few koi from him over the years.

Now that the new pond is done I wanted to play with a few very small koi. I got 6 of them at the time. They were all about 2" long, 2 of them didn't make it out QT, and one other jumped out of the pond. So, I have 3 of them left to play with. I just pulled them up today to look at them. They have put on 3" in the last 5 months. The down side is they are still small and will not come up to eat with the big boys. I think this is going to change in the next few months.

It will be interesting how much they will change and grow over the next year. I'm hoping by the end of the year they will all be 10" or larger. With them putting on 3" in colder water I wouldn't be shocked to see more like 10" more growth by the end of the year.

Here's a few pictures of them now. Lets see them in the next three month to see if they have changed in any way.

Now they are interesting Tom  I look forward to the update to come!

The last pic, what an unusual head pattern, I like it. A lot of black to come on pic #1 and #3, hopefully it won't cover too much of that red.

Very Nice! I was out checking my two koi, along with the GF, and mine are all doing good, The 2 koi I got last summer at 3 and 4 inches now the butterfly is around 10 in. and the other is about 9 in. that is how much they grew in one year, well almost a year!

Oh I would post a pic but my pics are always too big and I can't shrink them for some reason! :(

Tammy, I'm more than willing to resize them and post them for you if you want. Just send them to koicrazy@sbcglobal.net

The pictures are not all that great of the koi. The koi do have a lot more red to them then the pictures show. Next time, I will try to get better pictures of them.

I like fish number 2, the 3rd one is a little strange looking but interesting for all that. Would like a lighter pic of #1, hard to see what is red and what is black on it. Nice shape to me anyway.

And what classification would you call number 3? I like them all...unique they are.

#3 gives me the willies !wow! It's almost like it's got HUGE eyes.

Like an optical illusion.

I really like #1 and 2.
#3 however should possibly be called "helter skelter" or just Charles for short?
j/k

Busy, I'm going to guess...
Would these possibly be considered as Goshiki ?

#3 is pretty ugly but I bet it is beautiful in the pond.

Nope I don't think I have posted a picture of this koi before Greg. No, it's not losing any Hi on it. The koi has looked like this from day one. The eyes on it are not red at all. It's just red around the eyes like having glasses on it. I know Chuck Downs has a koi that has red around the eyes that has been in KOI USA a few times. That might be the one your thinking of.

These guys are just something I wanted to play with. I will get better pictures some time next week of them. I turned off the UV light last week, and now I can't see the bottom of the pond. In just five days it went green on me.

The last one I get benny and the jets! Big red funky sunglasses !dude Have to call it Elton.
Just cleaned the outside pond emptied dry all new water and no fish and it is green in a couple days. What kind of UV you running Tom?

Ian, I run the Zapp Pure 10 on my pond. In my eyes it's one of the best units on the market. One thing that I needed was a UV light with a flow switch. This is because I run my UV light off of one of my skimmers. If it didn't have a flow switch, I would run the risk on damaging it of the skimmer sucked dry.

Any pictures of that outside pond of yours?
