Thanks Terri, I have pretty much hit the limit for this pond with these little guys so I have taken up mining again and will build another little back yard puddle. You know just in case we find 1 or 20 that we just can’t live without, it's funny how that works. Allen PS what's the deal with chomper the Chagoi getting SOOO dark?

Good looking wet kids there Allen. My chagoi changes colour he is starting to lighten up now but was darker earlier in the spring.... but they come in a variety of shades.

Busy, yes that’s what I'm trying to convince myself to believe. My wife doesn't know it yet but it falls into the grand scheme of having a 20X50 pond @ 3'-8' because I'm digging the new hole behind the retaining wall next to the one in the picture to get native river rock for the water fall ;) ;) . I am waiting to suggest the idea of just making one large pond instead of two bigger ones and carry the retaining wall in front of the whole thing. Allen

Rem, I don't think ponds are ever finished. Next year you will be adding to yours cuz Pam wants more fish or the ones you have have grown :frisbee:

Allen, that is a super pond for sure!!! Show us a pic of the work.

Ah the joys of manual labor gotta love it! Ok the retaining wall is made of the little 65 lb 6"X16" back breakers and as it stand I have already packed in 176 of those little rascals however its only 1/2 done. The fence is 8 feet on center with 6" uprights to use as a reference. The picture of the mining project is currently 12" below the bottom course of the retaining wall so as it stands w/o digging any further the existing pond inc the retaining wall would sit at 42" plus 36" = 78" deep or 6.5' less 6" to lay the liner under the last course of the retaining wall. So when I'm boarded I will continue to dig away and keep my evil thoughts to myself until that moment arises  . One thing I do know is I sure have earned it if I can be convince her to buy a 50X100 liner :-x with plenty to spare. I know it's hard work but it sure is a stress reliever. Allen

You've got me giggling here Allen

Those brick are a PITA! I've moved them before and they're no fun! I've bought the smaller size just so my back doesn't give me so much grief.

I've got a piece of herculite laying around that I think is 100 by 100...If I pace that off...there goes my back yard  Be fun tho wouldn't it? My greenhouse is 30 by 50 and it's pretty good size so 50 by 100 liner would be huge!!!

I want to build a rock retaining wall..there's cool slate chunks a few miles away and then today I saw river rock concreted up a house front...like the old rock work fireplaces...now I'm confused again..duh! Dry stack slate or cool river rock...too many choices!

Busy, I see you know what I'm talking about. The rock and slate face houses look sooooo nice, I have seen how the pros do it and as long as you are good at jigsaw puzzles and stucco mesh it doesn't look too bad. So for that 80X80 pond when did you say you where breaking ground  ? Less lawn to mow now that sounds !dude to me. The 6 flat stone at the upper left of the picture are actually rough cut granite that I am considering polishing to give it a little zing and they came from a new construction site up in the hills about 70 miles from our house. Nothing like free stone!! You'll have to figure out how many pounds of stone you have so you can offset the savings against the new liner  Don't forget to pay yourself for the hours spent digging. I'm sure it will impress her enough to know the liner is actually free.

Jackie, I average $3.25 an hour so the labor bill won't be too high. The cool part is, if I priced out the flat rock and river rock I know I have saved at least the price of the liner and maybe a few bottom drains as well ;) ;) ;) Allen

See, now start working on the wife about all the money you have saved. some rocks here go for 28 cents a pound!! BTW I think you need to give yourself a raise. Minimum wager here is $7.00 a hour.

Ozzy lucky you being able to dig down and find those rocks!!! We dig down and all we find is more clay and water !rofl We have to pay $.16 lb for our river rock like that! WOW! You are saving big time! Hey you have to justify right?

Thats right Cinn, the more rock I pull the less that liners going to cost. As for a pay raise my boss is too cheap and says I will be fired if I even consider trying to get a pay raise so what do I do. I owe I owe its off to work I go.  Allen
