Had to go over to another koi friend last night who was having trouble with his new Japanese koi. They were flashing alot.
Scraped and scoped one of the big ones. Not much slime coat on the side of the fish, but the belly was very thick. Got a real good scrape in the armpit.
JEEZ dude, you got every FLUKE in the book !!!
Gill Flukes, Skin Flukes, Tricodina, and Ich.... !bonk
I only took pictures of the flukes I didnt already have on file. Watching the little hairs move on the Ich was pretty cool. Like a mini car wash.

Well there's a buggy soup mix! Great microscope shots Greg  Thank for posting those!
You know it would be a very good thread if we turn this into "here's what they look like" ... quite helpful to those who haven't seen certain parasties under the scope.

Show that skin fluke to someone and ask them if they ever want to swim in non-clorinated water again !wow!
Pretty catchy title tho dont you think. Mabye I need to add a fluke identification page to my website.... If I would have had my other camera with me I could have gotten some good video also.

Ok, that is just nasty, and to think Mon. I was in my pond rearranging rocks, and vacuuming, sure hope those buggers aren't on any of my fish!

I'd love to see a compilation of pics identified as to pathogen.
Can anyone tell me what this is?
Scraped Stripe behind her pectoral fin. Got some THICK mucous.
The bugs are not motile.

DG, great shots. Wish I could identify them for you. They don't look like any parasite I have seen posted in the past. Could it be bacteria? There is one in the shots with the dark nuculous that almost but not quite looks like Ich.

Hi Betty :-)
The top two photo's, doesn't ring a bell,.. not seen "bugs' under the scope that clump like that(maybe dead ones). The first photo at 640x, that looks like trich (?), the second photo looks like dead trich... no mobility usually tells you there's no life - the second photo looks like the inside cells have burst. With everything you've hit your fish with I would say these are carcases that have yet to be shed of in the mucas coat.
Just a learning student...
Thanks for posting the photo's Betty.

Thanks you guys. Something's sure going on given the flashing I saw yesterday and Stripe's heavy mucous. Went ahead and PP'd them again to try and slow whatever it is down while I figure out other treatment options. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be most appreciated.

I've never found PP to be a good parasite control. I think you need to hit the fish too hard to get at the baddies. A heavy slime coat in itself could make them flash a bit trying to get rid of it. PP can also irrate the skin and make them flash.
