Green thumb inside and out huh JoJo!rofl We're in the same zone, I just think our winters are longer than yours..Classic Montana decor...the skull hanging on the fence?:frisbee: Dang hubby has a collection on the deck..one of a bear that died a few years back in the back yard...
Speaking of bears...a jogger got mauled a couple days ago.!wow! ..their up and awake and moving around and hungry. Need to keep the kids off bikes for awhile till calving season is over..

Geesh I bet you have fun with the ole bears up there Busy... Keep safe..
As for Montana Decor, LOL most the thing, the flower tower, the chairs (yes I did paint them) the wooden bench, the ole wheel and many more were things we bought from garage sales or DH found as he was making his garbage routes... LOL... The bolwing ball is a old one my daughter grew out of.. I have my gramps bowling shoes and bowling ball, given to me after he died and I am thinking of maybe adding them to the decor as well... I actually threw a few things out this spring.. Got a bit cluttered...
Charla,
Take some pics it will be fun to see everyones garden grow....
Heres a pic of the full view of the yard from last year.. The flower tower is new.. as is the swing another inherited gift from when gramps died last august... It would be in the bigger yard, (Dogs and Kid section) but I am afraid Kids and Dogs would wreck it... Minus the ole car in the back ground too

I just remembered what would fit perfect into your yard...I like garden art altho the junkier the better  I found a old rusty wheelbarrow at the thrift store so I drilled holes in the bottom of it and plant purple wave petunias in them...It does help if the tire is aired up  People now won't let me not plant their wheelbarrows..last one I found was at the dump...

LOL busy... One of our neighbors has a toilet with flowers in her yard... I've seen old row boats and even a bed frame planted with flowers, oh yeah and a full old car frame as well... Interesting stuff... Lets see my sister plants strawberries in the center of old tractor tires...

One of our neighbours had an old claw tub planted up with flowers. Looked very cute. Another neighbour told me some one stole the tub.... people are weird for sure!!!
No takers on the wheelbarrel, its blue!!! Maybe the step daughter will take it. she likes the barrels with the flowers spilling out.

I think one of those claw tubs nestled in a bunch of flowers would be pretty with a water garden in it and some rig it up so water trickles from the faucet... But you would have to lots of flowers around it... SO it didnt look so obvious...

Actually this sat out in the middle of the lawn and it was planted with blue flowers some of them spilling out of the tub in a overflow/waterfall effect. Very pretty.

Hi JoJo,
I will honestly when I get to go outside long enough to enjoy it,lol! Actually I have been working on it the last three years and its a far cry from being anything at all......... I live in a small town in the cascade foothills, right on the edge with timber all around and every dern weed that is almost impossible to kill out...... Its been a long haul getting someplace anyway!
Winters trying hard to hang on too, so I have not been able to even get out much to pick up the winter debris......

Kathy sounds like here. Although I live in the city I live near the ravine system and our parks went 'natural' a number of years ago. Gave up I think  But the weeds were 5 ft tall when we moved in 5 years ago and I think if I turned my back for 15 minutes they'd be right there again.
Spring is threatening to return here today.

Yup, we say time to mow the weeds here...... I"m going to have to go out and masacre Oregon grape again! :( Blackberry killer is about the only thing I have found to even get it under control and at that I have to dig down to the root, cut it and paint the root with the posion. I'll have to post up a pic of the stuff, awful...... and I can't believe people will plant that stuff......
Oh I know, I have some pics of before and after I started my yard projects.. I'll just dig them out if they are still on disc....... should be here someplace!

I've been killing off the concord grapes on the arbour for 5 years, so far 2 are dead.... I think the trumpet vine I planted last year will help kill the rest of them. The hardy kiwi is running rampant this year.

Now to have Grapes and kiwi growing in my yard... Funny how one thing is almost noxious in one part of the world and cant survive in another...
Jackie Ramo
04-29-2005, 04:27 PM
Actually I don't mind a few grapes in the garden, the vines are nice and the birds love the grapes, even the kiwis you have to be fast to get any but when they start coming up in the lawn, in the hedge and just about every where else they are a menace. A small one had taken root right in the middle of the clematis... it would have killed the clematis had I not dug everything up to remove it. The kiwi needs a hard trim this year, its taking over the pear tree.
Managed to get one rose and most of another removed today. Ugly old things. I look forward to replacing them with something much nicer.

Kiwi sounds alot like Virginia Creeper.. I have to keep that cut back, Its travel under all the slate, gravel etc and came up on the other side of my pond... It gorgeous on the fence but will take over if allowed...

Ahhh and I have more problems with the rasberries and blackberries. Some I planted but those runner roots and they end up every where. My husband hates when they get in his asparagus! One nice thing is every year we get lots of walking sticks in them from the newborn green ones to the big daddys. When I use to do day care, we'd go out and pick berries and count how many walking sticks we could find.

I get volunteer Palm trees. The silly Blue Jays sit on top of the telephone pole trying to open the fruit and drop them all over the place. I had one hiding in the horsetail at edge of my pond .

JoJo I have Virginia Creeper as well... horrid thing if let run. Under control it is a very attractive vine. I expect this year mine will be well behaved. When we moved in it hadn't been cut back in years and years and it had killed most of the lilacs not only in my yard by my neighbours as well....
Charla, you could ship them north, for some reason Canucks love Palms in the living room. Maybe it reminds them of their winter vacations !rofl

Ahh, Spring. Spent the weekend doing the yearly battle with all my flowers that over the fall and winter have instead of staying put, seeded out and formed a commune. Now if I were smart, in the fall I would dead head all the plants, but I like the winter look and the small birds lover the seeds. So in the spring I have the annual ritual, of not only loosening the soil but returning like species together. Occasionally I like where they have placed themselves and they are spared the upheaval. This year I had a lot more to do, seeing as last spring was so busy I didn't get to my usual spring maintenance. I was shocked at how prolific my violets, purple coneflowers and lily of the valley were. Most fond new homes in other areas or the pond, however some of the small had to be turned under. Found a few plants had not made it through the winter but all in all things look good so far. Have finished 4 flower beds with only 5 more to go and then I can begin on the new ones around the pond area, I have tagged some lucky plants for this move already. My goal is to finish before the weekend, so I can go plant shopping for new fillers. Luckily I have 4 days off this week, down side is it'll be a much smaller paycheck. So here are 2 of my front gardens before fully grown, I can't wait till they start blooming. The lilly of the valley smells so much you can be inside with the windows open and it's like you were right by them.

I lost count of the buds on the tree peony besdie the waterfall, but there are lots. No buds on the other peonies yet.

This is my big peony, everything in these gardens do well. The sewer lateral form the house comes out here so the ground warms up faster and stays warmer, I think even in the winter. Maybe not. Under the wiskey barrell is the septic clean out, what a pain to move every other fall. I have a whole circle garden of peonies some where else, those do not do as well, this winter 2 died off, but I have my favorite color one there. Tonight will get below 30, I'm crossing my fingers my lilac buds don't freeze like last year.
