Sunday, when I was cleaning the pond, I noticed a bunch of little lily pads floating on top, with bits out of them. Got them all cleaned out, and Monday noticed some more floating. This morning, I went out, and the fish did not see me, so went in the screened porch and watched. The larger fish are biting on the stems, which then allows the pads to float to the top, and the fish were biting at them, eating them.
I know they are hungry, its been a long winter, but the water is still to cold.
When I was working on the pond Sunday, they were just following me all around the pond....like they do in the summer months when they are begging for food.
The water better warm up soon, so I can feed them, or I won't have any lilies left, lol

I'd feed them some fruit and veggies now and also some worms and shrimp. I do feed lightly when the fish show interest. To me the spring is different than fall as in fall the temps will not come back up in spring they will. Now they don't get fed everyday and only the fast ones get any food but so far the lily pads have been left alone. I don't feed pellets until temps are steady over 55.

Hmmm ! I only thought it was my Koi that used to eat my lilys :frisbee:, as with Jackie once the cold weather in the Uk was comming to an end I chucked a nice lettuce in the pond, that way my lilys stayed intact. :)
