Phil came by yesterday and lent a hand with my pond problems. While here he brought his pictures of his collasped waterfall and pond edges. As you can see, he is a very large job on his hands., plus the wife has given him a small other project. A busy guy our Phil.

Well it seems Phil is not the only one having difficulties uploading pics... I've resized but they will not go through either to this thread or to the members gallery.... help???

Oh my Phil. That's going to be a lot of work. I wouldn't worry about your liner being punctured. Your pond is deep enough, the water would have slowed them down enough to not do any damage, at least that's what I think.

Some of those rocks are going to be heavy. Let me know when you plan to move them. I will try and give you a hand.

I hope you're right about the pond being deep and slowing down the rocks from puncturing the liner when they all fell in.

Wow! Have you made any progress or plans? Sure looks like quite an ordeal to get those big rocks out and especially without dropping them back in.

:scratch:Any friends with hoists and knowhow?:balloons:

It was enough to lift out your big white Koi last year......big job ahead of you.
Wish I knew how to help. :banghead: :grouphug::x:

No progress yet Marg, yesterday was a wash out Cold and hailing some rain too, as for hoisting the rocks out will have to come up with a good plan group support well better than working by yourself. Yesterday evening did settle down could have done a little work in the front yard as the MRS wants but decided to Chill a bit before driving her the BIL, SIL, MIL up to Rama for the night didn't get home this morning till after 3am.

Getting those rocks out of there is going to be a big job. Maybe you should invite a bunch from work over to your house for a rock moving party. :-P

If you had a hoist set up, it would just lift them up but still be over the middle of the pond.

If you could build a ramp with sides that the rocks could be winched up (slid up) to the side that might work. That could get them out of the pond so you could figure out the next step.

Have you a strong tree or solid post in the ground that a winch/come-along could be attached to? Do you know someone with an electric winch/tow cable?

I found this article on a guy using a come-along. http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.erasmatazz.com/Personal/GatewayImages/BigComeAlong.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.erasmatazz.com/Personal/Gateway.html&usg=__zA-Xda2a2yOEumv8ppYuRgP0NNw=&h=276&w=500&sz=69&hl=en&start=18&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=MD8D4trz1jE-HM:&tbnh=72&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcome-along%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26tbs%3Disch:1

Perhaps you could do what he did in the diagram and pull your rocks up a ramp.

Just thinking....

We used a sling made from extra liner to move the rocks from the main pond to the totem pond. Heavy work and Phil's rocks may be bigger and heavier, hard to tell size from these photos.

Thanks Marg very interesting, if I only had a backhoe life would be easier. My back is killing me today as last night worked for hours planting my Pom Pom tree did not want to leave it outside as I know it would be gone, remember the circle in the boulevard war stolen a couple years ago. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I have seen a few as I read.
I will come and help ...if there is anything I can do....

How did you get the stones set up (by yourself) in the first place?

My big question is what is behind the liner? What is holding up the patio?
Is your soil the good old red clay that I used to have in Oakville? :frisbee:The kind that gets slippery when wet?

Looking at the photos I posted this morning...you have a post further back...
is that one really deep in the ground that could be used to be an anchor for a come-along?
Marg

philly
04-19-2010, 07:23 PM
Yes Marg the soil is good old HARD clay and the posts are 4' down 6X6 posts. The big rock took 3 big guys to roll it in from the front yard and 2 to stack the smaller wall stones. :crybaby:

Jackie Ramo
04-19-2010, 09:20 PM
I hope you paid those 3 big guys so they will come back and help you!! Definately will have to be winched out somehow if it is 1,000 lbs.

OMG that is a major rock slide, think you need a "watch for falling rocks" sign and just leave them and rebuild the falls:grin: All kidding aside, that is going to be a major task to get them out. I would offer my assistance, but with my back problems, drive distance and no passport yet, I wouldn't be much help. Make sure you document the progress. Are you going to redesign the falls so it doesn't happen again?

philly
04-24-2010, 01:42 PM
Yes have to put in some cement post support if I ever get to it this year, right now the front yard Japanese garden has priority according to the MRS.

I think your pond needs professional assistance this time Phil. Worth it to get those rocks out and not endanger yourself. Pay someone to get the rocks out and rebuild the waterfall.

Over the winter, Philly has had water problems with his hoses. :banghead:
Then it was topped off when some very heavy rocks from his wall and falls tumbled into his pond.:jaw:

without anyone, including fish, getting hurt  or damaging the liner. :eeeeek::tantrum:

Phil can always purchase some new larger rocks or opt for a different design?

Hey Marge and Marla...me too...pop in every once in awhile but no pond and fish in hibernation so not much happening...

Saddest thing ever kept me on the brink for the last month...my poor dog passed away...somehow got into antifreeze somewhere in the neighborhood...my heart is still in pieces.

Soooo...I still don't understand how the slopes gave way? Too many rocks or were you rearranging them Philly when you were working on the hoses? I agree it will be no fun to get them out...slippery liner even trying to hoist them out will be a challenge.

philly
04-26-2010, 12:39 AM
Busy Sorry to hear that you lost such a close friend or family as some people would say.
The hose to the waterfall came apart and most of the water was pumped out, say over 6,000 gallons luckily the kois manage to survive, between the water loss and the heavy rain the ground was very soft from the mild weather which cause the waterfall to gradually slope inwards towards the pond eventually sliding into it, had the ground been frozen it might have held up and not gone in, as they say $hit happens guess it was my turn.
