Still planting the plants I got on Saturday. Some of the plants in the pond last year didn't live up to expectations, so out they go and in with the new. Had to replant the cardinal flowers, I'm sure I had them in too much water. I've had precious little luck with them over the years, but I decided to give them another try. I got a couple of ferns that are supposed to like full sun if they're feet are wet. We'll see. I love ferns. I hope they do well. Got 2 swamp hibiscus planted today as well. Never had any luck with those either, but try, try again I say. Still a whack more to plant as the week goes on. Hard to do with the dogs wanting to help and hubby out of town, so no one to distract them for me. Didn't get as much done as I wanted to yesterday. Too cold until mid afternoon to play in the water.
Lillies are doing great. Still no sign of the lotus growing yet, but it came up a lot later than the lilies last year. I'm sure it would be happier if I didn't have it all the way down in the bottom of the pond.

My goodness, my water is way to cold to be playing in!

The swamp hibiscus are really late coming up so don't give up on them until June. I've never had much luck with the red cardinal flower but the giant blue lobelia did wonderful for 5 years then crapped out last year.

Haven't planted anything as yet, do have some hostas in pots and 2 treee peonies bought bare root at the Royal Botanical garden show. I figured they'd do better in pots than the ground as it was so cold. Outside and growing fast now.

First lily leaves hit the surface but the koi have been pulling at them so they are delayed I think, lots of leaves in the skimmer... even bits of plants, darn fish.

What ferns did you buy. I have royal fern in the bog but it gets crowded out which says something about a fern that is supposed to grow 4 ft! or maybe about how crowded the bog is.

One of the ferns is a Royal fern. The other is the Ostrich fern.
Hibiscus take forever to come up in the garden, I guess no different in the pond. I hope these ones take. Planted the blue lobelia last night. Only 4 more pots to go. It's not the planting that takes the time so much, it's the getting the pots at the right level for the plants their holding that's taking so much time. I have a rodgersia and some black snake root to go in yet.
Haven't even planted the bogs yet. Need hubby around to distract the dogs for that. He's back today. I have large mesh over them to keep the dogs out, as soon as I take it off to plant, Bentley will be in there digging, hence why I need a distraction for him.
White and Yellow lillies are up and vigorous. The red is hold true to my luck with reds. It has one sad little pad up and 2 teeeeny ones coming, but it's not looking robust.

Nothing like having the dogs help you when gardening. I remember amber as a pup helping me plant pansies. I had bought black and white pansies and wanted to do a nice checker board pattern down the walkway. I'm happily planting away and Amber is with me. I look back to admire my progress and she has pulled each and ever pansy out and ate the flower so I had no idea which was black and which was white. She was sitting with a smile on her face waiting for me to plant the next batch :HAHA:
