I've been seeing canna's used around or in the edges of ponds but read they are possibly dangerouse and wonderd just how true that was. I was given some lovely red ones. Can I use these or shall I relagate them to a bog area away from the pond itself?

I've never had any problems with Cannas in the pond, the fish even eat the roots with no signs of illness, they seem to think cannas are just yummy!!

Now for growth and flowering, frankly I think they do better in the bog. But that maybe just because they get better roots there :D

Thanks Jackie! I had to ask and knew you'd most likely know! :-) I'm planning on a boggy spot this summer, bought some lovely varigated water celery last year!

I was just reading my newest gradening magazine and they gave the Longwood hybrid water canna's very high marks. The colours red, yellow and a soft orange were just stunning in the pictures.

I'm probably taken with them because of the name Longwood's. One of the most beautiful gardens I ever toured.

Yeah, I'd like to add some different colors in with this red I have. Maybe some with the different leaf colors as well! :D

There is one with very bold foliage and I have sat here for 5 minutes but can not come up with the name. Orange flowers i think.
