These are most of the koi i bought from joe at The CFKS '05. Some are worth alot more than the "$8 each, or 3 for $20" that was on their tank...I bought three of these the first day of the show..and the rest the last day of the show......can you pick the "3"? go ahead try.

#5, is that a kumonyru(sp?)? Promising little shiro utsuri that one
I like the asagi. #2 is a.... ginrin what? Pic #7, larger of the two koi, nice Luke, very nice! Be interested in seeing that one in a year or two.
I'm horrible with judging measurements so I'll pass LOL

Gosh, for a change there is not one there I don't like.
I'll bite on which 3 you had to have the first day before some one else got them:
the asagi as it is nice and would have sold quickly
The black and white one which has a nice pattern and I know you are a sucker for that shiro whatever...
And the one with the black coming through the red, it has a special name type but darn if I know what it is.
So know looking its the first 3 pictures
!rofl
BTW I only counted the first post of pics as being in the contest....

3 for $20 was a score...did he make you the deal cause you're friends or was that for everyone?

jr.,
your reasons for your pics were extremely well reasoned...EXTREMELY...and correct (2 of three anyway)

Hmm now that jackie helped us figure out 2 of them I will try and guess.
Pic 1, 3, and 11 just because I like him/her
I would not have picked the asagi to begin with so glad jackie helped. But that could be because I do not care for them myself.

Well see that is why I always buy cheap fish because I usually do not like what is actually considered good koi. Just bought the ugliest guy tonight.
My only other guess would have been 1, 3, and 9 the shusui because if you like asagi you probably like shusui

This was one of the three for $20 (that is less than $7 each) and you could have bought it.
The reason it was inexpensive was that several of the asagi had jumped up and cut their heads. joe saw something on this one. i didn't. it would have sold for 75 bucks or so.
Hot lil fishie for less than $7. I don't think I'll ever find a deal like that ever again.

Mudsow? FIVE..NUMBER FIVE ....you have got to be kidding.....That komonryu is screaming "QUALITY". The Black will come and it has a beautiful clean head...a sign of some really high quality white in its future..and plenty of black Will show up. usually too much, but this fish is showing enough white that there should still be some left when the black comes.
And the shusui is a high quality fish too...look at the white nose. if you see that in a shusui you are better off buying it than one with a "cloudy" nose.
And unfortunately (even though this is supposed to be a section where we are supposed to be able to appreciate koi) the pic size won't allow anyone to see how thick and consistent the colors are on this asagi. i am not a fan of shusuis. this one sets off alarms.

Well I'm not sure this guess is as good as the first one, but I'll pick number 10 since all the fish are in the contest. And since I gave reasons last time I will this time. I think you'd like the challenge of keeping the tancho and ginrin as pretty as it is now. But my real reason is i like it and it isn't number 11, which would have probably been my first guess.

What about #5!
I thought we were picking the ones that we didn't believe you got for 3/$20
I picked the 3 that looked the best to "me".
The asagi, the goshiki, and the komonryu.
well I liked those 3!
Ok, so I guessed wrong.... those are the 3 that I'd pick for $20

jr.,
I don't know why you thought that tancho was $6.66, but you are right..your reason this time makes NO sense. let me see if I got this right...the fish looks great so i was able to buy it for less than $7?
Actually that fish looks like a low quality fish once you get past the really sharp tancho spot. the fish is PINK and the ginrin is not present right in front of the dorsal. This fish needs a miracle to be a good show fish. But as far as pond fish go, you and i both know that tancho spot will get alot of attention.

mudsow,
You are SOOOOOO right. the asagi is a good 'un.
I like the Asagi! Need one for my collection.... All the koi look good how are they doing so far?
luke frisbee
03-20-2005, 09:39 PM
All of them are great.....but the asagi. i think it got in the $8 tank because it jumped out of the $75 tank at the show, and even though it looked great joe probably threw it in the $8 tank. it has a small hole at the end of the dorsal fin and a small abrasion has shown up on the tailtube...i got great water and am feeding them pretty good. if it isn't better in a couple of weeks I'll Play Doc J on it.
Now something different..how come no one chose #8 as a cheap fish...I thought someone did but i can't find out who? it looks pitiful. and the hi patches are just WRONG...where is the hi on the back third?
Anyway that fish absolutely stinks when you look at how it is now. it is 4 inches of Yawn at first glance. BUT the sumi (and underlying sumi) are screaming that it will be the most bizarre striped showa that any of us will have seen. there could be about seven stripes of sumi deep in that skin. real stripes, not swaths. This will be the koi to watch for the next three years.

Now you really have me worried... a while back we actually agreed on something and now we like the same fish.... !wow!
All in all I think you got some real "nice fish" there and a few that will be fun to watch, so we expect updates, reguarly, not you usual hit and miss stuff :D

in post #3 there is this koi...now a year older and looking like a future winner....now over 12 inches and steadily eating...the pattern will look great once the koi broadens...big fish pattern...wouldn't work on a kohaku...bot gold on white is better BIG
