Thanks Peg :)

Had to move out the Severum and Krib to our 25 gallon with some guppies (they are not amused).. couldn't catch the redtailed shark so he's still in there - which is fine
'cause he keeps the snail population to a minimum. I left Fugly  in there too, my Bristlenose Pleco.

This tank had BGA (blue-green algae) in a bad way for months... after adding the first 10 Wakin it was gone in 3 hrs LOL guess they were hungry!

Gosh wish I'd know that when the pond had blue green algae the koi would not eat it.

The wakin look good. My guys are doing well. I thought they would have spawned but lots of chasing this summer but no spawn. Not that I really care, 3 is all I want. BTW that bump on the wakin seems to have stopped growing.

I'm down to just a few Wakin now..

I hear so many people with Wakin that have the lumps anymore.. it's a shame.

Bonnie, I agree that the lumps/bumps are a troublesome issue. Before I brought the wakin in I did some culling... lumpy wakin got tossed in the water garden for the winter, those with out came inside. One thing I've noticed from the group this year is that the Orange wakin seem more prone to getting these lumps than that of the Red ones...? Not sure what that means if anything.

Do these lumps go away or are they permanent?

The lumps are skin tumors, I've only had one wakin that had the growths shrink away to almost nothing - but he became a heron meal so I can't say as to whether they would have returned...? Pretty much these lumps are permanent unless they can be/are removed through surgery.

That's a lot of goldfish in a 100 gallons. I've got 7 fancies in mine and wouldn't want anymore now that they've grown. You may be setting up another tank.

I noticed today that one of the other wakins has bumps on its tail, might be carp pox, but I'm not sure.

Terri, do you think the lumps are contagious?

Does anyone have pics of how big or how heavy of an infestation? All the ones in the picture sure look healthy. I love the variety also. I am going to get some wakin someday. :alright:

Jackie, I have come under the impression that this strain of skin tumor infection is genetic mostly but I think it's viral - so while passing on is possible it should be able to be controlled. The one wakin from Blackwater Creek that I have does not show any signs of the lumps while the a few others from a Chinese breeder are still developing the lumps - noticed the beginnings on two in the 100 gal yesterday, weren't there when I brought them in. Comes down to breeding, housing, stocking rates, even feed.

Cindy,... that is about maybe 1/4 of the wakin that are actually in the tank ... over stocked - hell yes! But that is okay, if it's one thing I deal with on a daily basis it's managing overstocked tanks  You really should come visit, see what overstocked really means LOL

Ron, I have pictures somewhere, "where" is the question LOL... will hunt them out - if that doesn't pan out then I will net a few and take some photo's.

As long as Tweet doesn't catch it I don't really care but I'd get rid of the lumpy one if it saved the others from getting it.

Jackie, I had my lumpy one for a couple of years and it was the only one that them.

Terri,
The one that I had was more orangey but Sandy (kntry) has red & white that she got from Doug Ward and they have/had lumps.

Did it die of the lump? Mine has it on his head but it seems to have stopped growing so hopefully it won't get worse.

No Jackie, either a turtle or Heron got it..

At the time I thought turtle but right after a few fish went missing a Heron was spotted several times. :censored:

Sorry about the darn bird. Things are a menace and to think I used to love the sight of them... before one came to my pond that is.
