As many of you know I have an 800 gallon pond with 3 baby koi in it. I also suffered a green water problem but it has been slowly going away now that I found the problem. K well back to my point. I was thinking of getting another koi but came across a desire to have some wakins. I heard they need about 30-50 gallons per fish on the safe side so I was thinking maybe they would be better then pushing the limits with another koi. If so there are a few places around me that have them. Anyone have there view on this? Should I do it or get another koi or not get another fish altogether.

I really like wakin, they are cute, friendly and easy to care for. As you know koi need 250 gallons each to grow and mature properly. So my advice, would be to trade the koi in for wakin. 5 - 7 wakin to start and they will grow and breed. You'd have a nice pond full of fish that will thrive.

My new pond will be for wakin, I have 3 now and may add to that number next year if they don't spawn.

K well I am not going to trade my koi in because I really like them. I thought I would just try something new to mix things up :cheers2U: Would there be anyway I could keep maybe 2 in there with the koi or is that asking to much out of my pond.

2 Wakin would be fine and a nice addition to the pond.

Well the koi farm Moorehaven has them at certain seasons and said the pricing is around 20-30$. I thought this was an aweful lot for a golfish in my mind since I can get sarassa comets for 6$ a piece. Hopefully I can get a hold of 2 or maybe even go with comets since they are very similar except the tail.

Shop around. Wakin are becoming more and more popular. The problem is shipping can drive the price ofthe fish way up.

Phil at www.wakin.us is in washington state and he has better prices. I think he has wakins from Becky also which would be healthy wakins.

After eeading about wakins recently and their lumpy problems I'd want some sort of guarantee they won't get those ugly growths.

Hi Tracey nice to see you here.

The wakins I bought from Becky at wakin works and Phil have had no signs of the lumps. I have had most them about 4 years now. The rest were born in our pond. These pictures were taken this fall when we cleaned out the ponds.

Nice group you have there Tracey :) I've tried to obtain wakin from Wakin Works in the past,... no luck then but maybe they are producing more now and are able to meet demand...?

The wakin I got came to a local wholesaler from China (so he tells me)... those I have left here are lump free, the lumpies are compost.

Glad the pictures came up. I was getting the red x when I first posted. Becky at Wakin works started having back problems and could not bend over the tanks to catch and care for the fish any longer. She was going to try to fill orders on the waiting list but I never heard from her. And that was from 2 or 3 years ago, Phil & his partner at wakin.us both work full time so sometimes it takes them a few days to get back to you but they are good to work with when they do.

Tracey those look great. First time I have seen yellow ones.

Terri I still have lumpy Fred but the lump has started to grow again and it is making me unhappy. I worry old Tweet will catch it. Silly I know.

The other two seem fine, one has a small bump on its tail but it has not grown in a year so I can live with it. I'm surprised they did not spawn but maybe they have and ate all the eggs since they are only fed once a day.

They are so cute, will they winter as well as a normal goldfish?
