Thanks all. The studio gang had a big laugh as I was glazing it I was cursing the detail involved and having to use tiny brushes. Still in the long run it was worth it. This was taken with a flash and doesn't show it best.

Since I came across the photo that inspired the piece I thought I'd share it here. As you can see not everything translates exactly

That's called artistic license. I don't think the yellow on the little fish would have been as nice as the red anyway. Do you use photo's for all your tiles?

I do use photos but not always. I also will use a collection of photos to give me the feel that I want and will take a bit here and a bit there. Oft times landscapes just come out of my head.
I will look through a picture book, close it and work. I seldom if every refer back to the picture when glazing, I find if I do I end up copying and unhappy with the result. Now for GG or real fish that I want to look like them selves I do refer back to the picture as it more of a portrait.
If I do use a picture I prefer to use my own photos to work from. I have worked from other peoples photos with permission. I did a painting of one of Ian's pictures and another of Martin de Jong's. But more and more I prefer to work in a independant mode where the picture is inspiration and the piece stands for itself.
The painting inspired by Ian's photography The next one is from one of my own photo's
