The first blooms of the season arrived finally. I suppose it will be completely official tomorrow but the snowdrops are blooming in the snow and they don't care.

These pots are sitting in 4 inches of water....

The rest ofthe yard isn't much better

The greenhouse plants though are much happier and can't wait to move outside

Snowdrops, how wonderful. I wish I could get up to the rock garden to see if mine are up yet. Have this huge ice field in the backyard right now that's working it's way down towards the house. Tomorrow should take care of it....it's taking my life in my hands to try to walk up to the pond or the rock garden.
Love your snowdrops, spring is here! The lambs ears beside them look pretty enough to pet this time of year too.

I slipped a couple of time on the way but wanted to see them. I look forward to them so much. Must move a few more to an even sunnier spot. Lambs ears are sort of spring like as well.

I have different batches of them planted around the yard but these are always first. When I move some later in the season I'll set aside a few for you if you don't have any in the garden.

The Robins overwinter all year here so seeing them is not the big thing it used to be. Hearing the cardinals sing today was a real spirit lifter though. I had worked on a volunteer project all morning was late to the studio and whn I got home had to walk the dog. I was beat and really didn't want to but was so happy by the time I was done.

I'll have to go to the front to see if the crocus are popping up but its a bit early for them, still snow out there.

Debbie, thanks for the link. Looks like a nice place to live. Anywhere than values the arts is a good place to me.

Charla, you stop bragging right now!!! All the white stuff is now a lake that has joined pond to back of yard. I can't even get to the bird feeder without waders.

Some call it sugar snow, suppose to be good for the maple syrup run ? Glad it's good for something!

The news was covering maple syrup the other day, a better sign of spring than robins.

I remember harvesting maple syrup with my parents a few years ago and we boiled it to 20% and mixed it warm with rye, the only time I like either and it was warm on the hands sitting by the wood fire in the woods. A perfect day.

Yes seeing the buckets on the trees , is a sure sign spring is not far off. And whatever snow we get will melt in no time. It will be so great to get out and clean up outside, And of course get the pond going!

The pond iced over again last night but should start to thaw again on Sunday. I'm eager to start the clean up in the garden. I don't do very much in the fall so there's a lot to be done.

Got cold here again also. Did see 3 robins yesterday, but alas the juncos are still here and you know what that means. But I did notice the goldfinch at the feeders are starting to turn, by the end of the month they should be nice and yellow. Had one cardnil singing away yesterday, probably trying to take hold of a piece of real estate and bring in a bride. Love to here the birds, in winter they don't sing to much.

I did a little work around the pond today, got rid of about 5 pounds of algae from the stream. The wet kids went crazy for whatever made it into the pond. I have lily pads on the surface and WEEDS everywhere else.

I need to get out there tomorrow morning while it's still cool and get rid of the tropicals I lost a month or so ago in our freeze ... I actually had about 1/4 inch of snow !rofl any way it did a number on my hibiscus, angel trumpets etc. I keep hoping I'll see some green coming up from the roots.

I have lavender , salvia, and rosemary blooming and full of bees !wow! and humming birds.

Charla, have I told you lately that I hate you!!! !bonk Although I was walking around the garden yesterday taking pics thinking all the time -that needs moved, is that dead, gosh look at the size of that fffffff weed and how many of the darn things there are!!!!! Makes my back hurt, I can hardly wait

Marla, I understand the Juncos completely... funny I usually have bunch here but this year only in fall.... Normally I see them all winter as I have a large flat feeder and they are ground feeders. I suppose I may see them on their way north.

Charla
03-17-2007, 02:42 AM
Jackie I just wish we had some of your wet, we've had only 2.75 inches of rain this season. Normal is at least 15 inches, we are DRY, DRY, DRY ... I hate to think of the fire season ahead.

Weeds ..UGH!

Charla the fires of California are even making our news. North of you is too wet maybe they could pipeline some down to you.

Snow here last night, not the type of wet you are looking for, trust me.

I'll have to check, but I think Jackie just celebrated her
2657 Birthday! :HAHA:

BTW dymndgyrl, you were right - it was Seals and Crofts. Elton's was "Island Girl" (25 years after the fact and fewer braincells!)

Nooooo - we're too busy gardening !!!

Gabriola = One of the Gulf Islands, a 20 min ferry ride from Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. Pop. maybe 3500 or so (more in summer).
