Recently I've been asked by a couple of koi clubs if they could use some of my material we've accumulated on Khv and our experiences. I figured now that the web page is built I'll share it. When Lin and I we're in the midst of this turmoil we seriously considered quitting the hobby. We decided after all we learned it would be foolish to waste such an experience.
It is important to us to make individuals aware of this terrible disease. If you feel you can use this info to bring awareness ... use it. You have my blessing. Just give credit where credit is due.

Thanks for sharing, I will bookmark the link, but I hope I never need to use it. The disease looks awful.

I've made this a sticky thread... a must read for those who know or do not know about KHV.
Walt and Lin thanks for sharing and for taking the time to document your experience.

A real heart break.
I read a lot about heating the koi to 'cure' the disease. It didn't seem to work for you. Do you have any ideas as to why it didn't work?

Do you have any ideas as to why it didn't work?Jackie, I have heard of success stories and failures both. we combined the last 3 survivors with the original koi that were exposed. we wanted to see if the koi would survive if heat treated.
The real problem is KHV is a herpes virus. there is no cure to this herpes virus, so heating it makes the virus go dormant. It does not cure it. To date they don't know what trigger's it to re-appear. That is why it's not recommended to buy the koi from Isreal who have beeen subjected to the virus...no telling what will make it re-occur.

There are no words to describe how bad I feel for the two of you having gone through this. I hope things are better for you now & I’m glad you didn’t throw in the towel. It’s people like You & Lin that experience these kinds of events and the willingness to share it with others that make this site a great place for the rest of us to learn.
Thanks
Best wishes for a good year of ponding
Peg
