My fancy goldies have been spawning every day. I have discovered I have 3 females and 4 males. This is the 1st evening they haven't spawned in the past 7 days. The tank looks like a bomb hit it. Thank goodness it's 100 gallons, the females have a few places they can hide to rest. I haven't been feeding them much during this spell, I want them to eat as many eggs as they can. Amazingly the water quality hasn't suffered badly during all this, thanks to a honkin big cannister filter. The tests are all proving the water is fine.
This is the second time they've done this for a week long period the past month. It's all coming back to me why I stopped stocking ponds with goldies.
I have some plant landscaping to do in the aquarium now....good thing the gardening bug is starting to nip at me this time of year anyway.

:frisbee: More babies for sure. They never eat all the eggs. So congrats!!

I'm thankful that the wakin haven't spawned but then I'm keeping them cold this winter.

I'm hoping my Wakin spawn this summer.... I plan on selling them at the end of my driveway to passerby's - It's my new "get rich quick" scheme... I can see my retirement just around the corner, right Terri!!

No babies yet Terri, but the spawning continues. It's just brutal trying to keep that tank clean. They haven't stopped since I first posted this thread, what's up with that.
I've cut down on their food, so I'm only feeding half of what I used to, and they actively eat the eggs every day. No wonder they're growing like crazy.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point, the females have ample hiding places to get away from the males and they're not getting hurt but I can't keep up with this tank now that we're moving into outdoor work season. I may make a very small, like a very large deep tub dug into the ground pond to keep the males or females outside for the summer and then set up one of my 35 gallon tanks in the basement for them in the fall. The males and females are going to have to be segregated that's for sure.

How many females are there? Seems weird they'd be still spawning.

3 females. They take turns most of the time, sometimes all of them are involved. You're telling me it's weird. Driving me crazy. The only thing I can think of is the tank is in the livingroom and is now getting a ton of natural light from the front window because of the sun being stronger this time of year. I keep the verticals closed to stop the algae from becoming a problem, but there's still a lot more light than normal.
I'm watching the fish chasing each other around now, no eggs the past 2 days though, just the chase. Maybe they're finally starting to slow it down. Mind you my goldies when I had them in the pond went from spring till fall. I was forever netting out baby fish and eggs.

I'm sitting here in the dark in the livingroom at 4:30 in the morning and I can hear them splashing around in the tank. They never stop.

I wake up at 4:00 for work every day, can't sleep in on the weekends. Besides, the cats don't know it's the weekend either, so they still want breakie at 4.

I admire you. I couldn't hold a job that needed me up at 4 am. Definately not a morning person
