I need any advice on propagating dwarf (Chawan Basu) lotus. The 20 gallon container gets full in one season and I've changed it for a few years but can get only one tuber that ends up flowering the next year.

I didn't divide last year. I got lucky as a small tuber with roots appeared on top of the water. I cut it off and it produced blooms this summer.

I really hate to use a large pot 'cause it's a pain to remove all of the plant in order to divide. Is there some way I can encourage the small plantlets (?) to form from a rootbound parent?

I haven't a clue but those with the 'green thumb' will be sure to have some tips. I did find this link http://www.botany.com/nelumbo.html which has a bit on propagation of lotus.

Lotus is one plant I yern for but haven't the slightest how to take care of them nor I think the patience LOL

Its unusual for a tuber to bloom in its first season. But then I've managed to kill all my lotus... Still they are supposed to bloom in the second season and bloom best in their third mature season.
