This is the last and final pond. I know I have said that before but to remove this one, you need dynamite.

The Koi Pond, is 11'x16'x4' and 5,680 gallons. It has a 12 foot stream and waterfall.
Aquadyne 2.2 filter with blower
Fluid Art 6000k UV

4,200 GPH Sequence Pump for filtration
6,000 GPH Sequence Pump for waterfall

Block walls and spray on liner

Here is the construction gthread at Koiphen:

Well Chuck you can't say I didn't warn you and upgrade was on the way. :frisbee:

Looks absolutely beautiful. Did you keep the other pond like I suggested??? or was it another tear out? Who did the work for you? Kerin?

Terri

Thanks, my friends, the other pond is gone. Yes, Keirin did the work and Daniel from Tennessee did the spraying.

We love it.

Well, you do need one small pond to act as Q and hospital not to mention a place fora few of the special babies to grow out until you decide whether they are worthy of the big and beautiful pond

But truly Chuck, it is a lovely pond. A few more pics would be appreciated.

HOney, I am too good at being bad. Yes, we'd have a few laughs. Maybe one day at one of the koi shows.. I met Carl and Vicki in Buffalo

BTW I even registered at the mud pond to see your pictures, see what an influence you have, but no pictures are showing.....

They are having problems over there. I just sent Dale an email asking about them.

Wow Chuck! You should show a before and after..

Why did you change?

Ahhuhz
10-31-2006, 07:08 PM
OK, Miss B, here you go!

First we have the old Watergarden as of summer, 2005.
Then the Koi Pond as of summer, 2006.
Third, we have the smaller watergarden in the winter of 2004.
Then above, the new Koi Pond.

If you are counting, this is the fifth pond. NO MORE!!!!!

Why did we do it, well, we have to much money....
Actually, we have a lot of shale here and the ground is rather unstable. The sides of the pond were falls in and the waterfall was sinking so rather than have someone fall in or hurt one of the expensive kids, we decided to go with the cement block walls and the spray liner. We should have done that last fall but, who knew.

As for the construction pictures on KoiShack, they will be there in about two weeks after the convert the system over to a new product. They are going to do it after the Charlotte show.

Guess I don't remember the small one..

I'm sure you'll be pleased with the latest as will your fish..you could end up buying the lot next to you to expand again

Where did the filter go this time?

Ahhuhz
11-01-2006, 01:18 PM
It is in the same place. We used the same filtration as before with the original Koi pond.

Busy B
11-07-2006, 12:10 AM
Thanks Chuck for the pics..that's what I remembered...like how it set off to the side and still somewhat hidden.

How deep is it?..I see your covering...your frost line doesn't go very deep does it?

Ahhuhz
11-07-2006, 03:45 PM
Frost line is about 36". The pump house is about 4' tall. I have a small heater we keep in it to keep the temps at 70 all winter. Keeps the air going into the pond warm and toasty. Doesn't have much effect on the filter water. With the solar cover over the pond soon, it keeps it in the upper 40's. At least last year it did.

Busy B
11-11-2006, 05:03 PM
That's pretty good for being outside..We had two weeks of cold and not much snow cover..hope the frost didn't get to far down...makes a mucky mess come spring, if it does.

How many fish you holding in there now??..Still shopping??

Thanks guys.

Hey Bee, are you anywhere near Sitka? My wife loves whales and saw the whale watching at Sitka this morning on TV.

Busy B
11-12-2006, 02:50 PM
You can understand why they call them 'living jewel's' huh?...so many colors shimmering thru the water! You've aquired the new from Keirin??..I don't have a chance to keep up with everyone's buying spree's in the summer, so I miss out on alot. Are you maxed out now?

I'm in the southcentral part of the state..150 miles from Anchorage. Late this fall tho I finally did get to see beluga's. I've lived here for over 20 years and hadn't seen them..sorry..all the pic's were taken with hubby's camera. Smaller whale but was cool to see them crusing thru the water chasing the hooligan. Seals were playing along side but it was windy and cold.

I tried to see if I could find some pics on the net of them but came up with a nice tourist info clip...click on the movie at the top of the page for a blurb about Turnagain Arm..

Busy you have trees!!! I want to visit but in summer, when there is green and light :frisbee:

Chuck for whale watching Hawaii can't be beat. January the great grey's migrate from Alaska and breed. We cruised the Islands at that time a few years ago. went out on the boat with the whale foundation folks and the boat was nearly swamped when 3 large grey's cameout ofthe water, 2 males and one female....and you guessed it the batteries in the cameras were dead..... poop!

Ahhuhz

We may make it to Cape Cod some day. A lot closer, we can drive there.

Jackie Ramo
11-12-2006, 11:54 PM
Ha Ha Chuck. Hawaii is worth the money. Rainbows as far as the eye can see. I counted 7 different ones just standing still. and of course there are whales flowers and mountains.

Busy B
11-13-2006, 12:31 PM
Yes we have trees...I like the clip of Portage..where the 64 earthquake hit..the land dropped 4 feet thru there..it is exactly as you see in the clip..altho the house is falling further and further into the tundra. My favorite part of the drive is in late fall..the swans haven't left yet and all you see is hundreds of swan butts

Jackie Ramo

The only thing we are seeing aroung here recently are Canada Geese butts.

Am I bad, this was one of those many posts I read and didn't have time to reply. Chuck the new pond looks awsome, quite different from the first, but I like the way the stream is incorporated. The koi are stunning, and I can see the pride you take in the hobby with all the redos and your stock.

Ahhuhz

Hi Marla,
Thank you. They become a part of the family. We still have the three original pond Koi we started with along with lots of new friends.

This will be our last pond redo. We would need dynamite to move this one.

Sounds like you need a bigger pond Chuck, we only have 9 koi in 12,000 so it's time to at least build another one.

I bet I could get it moved; just need to find the right equipment.

Other than that, your pond looks awesome. We've been pretty busy lately. We bought a good camera and can post some good pics of our greenhouse. It actually went up this year before winter got here.

Hey Marc,
You could use lots more friends! If I see any homeless Koi at the shelter, I will send them out!

We just put out solar cover on our pond. It has been real warm the last week but temps are going down 30 degrees in the next couple of days so we decided it was time.

Used 12' cedar 2x4's across the pond and a slotted frame to support them. Also 4" pvc to vent the place.

Jackie Ramo
11-30-2006, 05:43 PM
 Marc you should check out Petfinder.com I'm sure they have a rescue group of koi for you

Chuck, you could use that base as a dance floor come summer BBQ season!!!

Ahhuhz
11-30-2006, 06:03 PM
Yup, it covers all 5,650 gallons of happy Koi water. It rasied the pond temps 4 degrees since we put it on. Guess the warm weather helped too.
