Hi All. Could someone tell me a good web site to find out about the use and dosage of baytril. I talked to my vet and providing I can supply the info he needs I will be able to get a perscription to treat my guys in the future when needed.

I'd ask over at KV for the doseage for your size fish.

I for one do not like KV prodical on baytril is he kidding..... Baytril is easy to get but is like Russion rullet if it works... For the sake of getting it, print it off as a way to obtain it from your vet for the info... Your vet tells you to inject EVERY day 5 to 7 days they are on the right track. Any crap with skip a day prodical on baytril throw it in the garbage..just my thoughts tho

Thanks Ian, Thats what Terrie was telling me. I need to find a vet that has some experiance with Koi and Baytril. So I can forward his name and number for my vet to call to get more info on what works best for treatment.

I don't know Ian, we've had great success with the "every other day treatments." I can't poo poo the concept because I know it works. Unless the koi were resistant to baytril of course. Then we switched to something with a little more punch.

More importantly Newbie, what is it that your dealing with, that your thinking you need baytril?

We have had success with no injections on some koi and others it made no difference. A strong fish without a "source" problem can overcome infections on there own. Here in Canada Baytril is the easiest to get, Vet drugs is not somthing Vets let go of without the thought of losing it all. Other drugs can be more toxic and risk is higher. As a hobbiest it is a line of defence to save there pet which one has reasonable access to if they can earn trust from there Vet.
I would be interested on how many people have had Baytril prescribed as a skip a day method. Not online prodical but what is prescribed on the bottle??

Hi NaturesCall
My question on baytril was posted in june, shortly after getting some new smaller koi. While in qt they began to get ulsers. I had treated them with medicated food and debride ointment as well as salt. As my name suggests I am a newbie to koi even after having them for a few years with no problems. This was my first time with sick fish. Baytril was the only drug my vet was willing to give me if needed and I had to provide a lot of info on usage and dosage. During this time I learned from a friend how to inject fish so if I needed to later down the road I would know how. These two didnt make it and were to small for injecting. Hoping not to have to do this again but I am better prepared now then I was.

Hi Ian, Our vet Dr. Helen Roberts prescribed the doses for us. We we're fortunate to find Her as there are not many Aquatic vets around. We originally went to her for ulcers on 2 koi only to find out later that these were secondary infections. The real source of trouble was KHV. But' that's another story. At the time we began treatments we had no idea what we we're about to face. I documented some of the treatments with pictures of their progress.

Koi one 12" Yamabuki (http://www.wallywurld.com/html/yamabuki_10.html)

Koi two 16" Shusui (http://www.wallywurld.com/html/shusui_0.html)

Koi three 11" Kajaku (http://www.wallywurld.com/html/kajaku_0.html) This guy was baytril resistant, so she switched us to another antibiotic...worked wonders

Hi Newbie...These are lessons we never forgot. I'm glad you found a source in case of emergency. God willing you'll never have to inject them.

Great pics to document the healing.

I've only had one experience with shots and Gavin came shot the fish and left. One shot and Ithink it was baytril. Fish is still here and baleful as ever. (Tweet)

The vet I went to suggested a baytril bath rather than a shot. Probably cuz I'm afriad of needles she decided it would be easier for me, it wasn't working which is why I got to meet Gavin.

I still had to euthanize them because Khv...even though they healed from the secondary infections. (ulcers) :(

As a newbie , may I say that you did excelent work on those Koi , what a shame that you had to euthanize them :( . This game is all about learning, and if I can master the knowledge that you have in treating Koi, I will be one happy man. :)

Thanks Merlin, stay diligent and keep your water conditions great and you won't have to do all this. ;)

I agree, prevention is so much easier than cure.
