What's wrong with my water hyacinth? They look rather yellow and have shown little signs of growth in over two months.
I have some free floating in pond (full sun), and some in biofilter (sun half day). The ones in the biofilter seem to be only slightly less yellow.

Hi Palsan, Do you use any kind of pond plant fertilizer to feed you plants. Water lillies and water hyacinth need lots of food. Sometimes more then the pond provides. I uses Laguna pond plant food. I take the monthly dose and divide it in to 4 and feed that amount once a week, every week. I have had great results. I usually have so many I take them to the local pet stor and get a credit for more pond stuff. Here is a pic of mine and they were really small when I got them. Now the pond is at least 50% covered and I have 2 Large tubs waiting to go into the new pond.

OPPS wrong pic  PS try cutting off the dying leaf right back to the main plant. They suck the life out of the mother plant.

I knew there had to be a simple explanation, thanks.

Hi Palsan, Do you use any kind of pond plant fertilizer to feed you plants.
Yes, I put the round pellets in the lilly pots but have not added anything to the water (except dechlor). The pond plant food you refer to, is it a liquid that is added to the water? If so, I'm guessing it's safe for the fish?

I have done that but not agressively for fear of destroying the whole plant.

I would remove them to feed them, use a garbage can or larger tub/bucket... the liquid fert can also cause an algae bloom ;)

Have you checked them for aphids? These little pests will also cause yellowing/brown spots and eventually kill the plant.

How long would I leave them in the container with the fertilizer?

There is no sign of aphids anywhere - all other plants (including the lillies and pickerel weed in the pond) are green and healthy.

A bucket with miracle grow can perk them up. The pond liquid fertilizers work as well, seldom cause a bloom but it over dosed or if the pond is borderline for a bloom then it will. What do the roots look like?

Black and "bushy".

Then feed them. The koi here eat the roots right off them... no wonder they don't grow well for me.

Thank you.

I put half of them in a rubbermaid container with 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer. Will leave them in for a couple of days.
