Hello all

need some insight on if anyone has heard of or seen anything like this

On one of my fish whom i have had for about 5months he has developed a blister (or wht looks like a blister) on his forehead where a tancho would have his red dot, i have done water tests everything is perfect the temp is round 12-14' Centigrade (dont know the farenheit temp) i have looked at one viral infection carpox and in my opinion it iosnt carpox the lump or growth is not at all greyish but the exact colour of the skin where it formed (fire orange) and the feel of it is like that of a blister after wearing a new pair of ice skates and the, the inside feels like it is filled with fluid and not a gel

I have been told it could be one of two things:
The fish has bumped its head and caused a laseration
& the other opionin i heared which is the first time i have ever heared anything like this is an infection or virus which lives off the red pigment of the skin.

Has any one ever heared of anything like this

an infection or virus which lives off the red pigment of the skin.

Yes, I have heard of this. Called Haki or something. Will try to do a search if Terri doesn't beat me to it. If your rub the spot is there blood, that is the sure sign, or so folks have reported.

Hopefully the fish has just bumped itself and the area will heal.

If it is Hikui then KoiQuest is the best source for answers, Duncan seems like an encyclopedia at times

I think Randy Yeh Mon dealt with something similar on a Sanke a while ago.... Gerard can you post a photo?

Netting the fish and make sure no other areas have any problems. Sometimes that spot on it's head is a small sore/ulcer..there may be a bigger ulcer on it's belly?? small spots of fin rot? red veining? looking in mouth as the infection started in the mouth now showing through it's head?? sort of thing. Bacterial infection can spread quick and antibiotic injections in prestien water is the way to go.
If only a wound a topical treatment and back in the pond and close observation.
A virus is more of sit back and let it take it's course as there usually is not much to be done. Depending on the virus qarentine may be in order to protect the rest of the population.
