My doitsu magoi is black in colour, but to day he has gone light grey . Yesterday he had a small red spot on his head just behind his eye and over top of his gill on the left side. Today it is quite a bit bigger and now there is a small spot on his side. He was swimming fine and he ate this morning. He just seems off. Moved them into a larger tank to day. filter is workind good, water check out ok.Her are two pics.
Hope someone can help.
Is it possible for him to change colour?

It looks like colour change for the pics to me but I am notorious for bad eyesight. They will change colours and sometimes slowly and sometimes almost overnight it seems.

Why did you think he is "off"

Not sure really. Maybe just being a worried mom. Did not expect a colour change in him. So if it is colour change what would that make him now. Whos that famous man that did all the tricks? Cant recall his name right now.

Sorry to hear that. My dad too. Maybe i'll have to change is name to Harry instead of Mr. Grey

Sorry, my fault - Harry is Living with my parents where he is king of the house. Sorry about your Dad. Houdini is a nice name.

LOL
How stupid do I feel LOL. So you think I have nothing to worry about. I'll let you know how he is tommorow. Hope he is not bell up or he will be in fishie heaven (and not king of the tank). Got to get some ZZZZZZ4:30 comes early these days.

I agree with Jackie, the 'red' doesn't look to be an infection. The colour was most likely always there you just didn't see it because the fish was do dark to begin with.

Well thats a relief, He seems fine today. More red showed up today on the other side of his head. Looks like he may end up with a band of red around his neck. I'll post more pics as he changes.
Thanks again for setting my mind at ease. Worried all day today at work. Never lost a Koi yet because of something I have done or didnt do. I'm sure one day I will.

Hey Terri if Mr. Grey is (was) a doitsu magoi and gets more red on him what would he be called then?

when black goes grey the underlying color shows through

The babies came over for watermelon today and once again I counted 10 black ones, there is also a black with red in his fins and one with white fins. I expect the blacks to change more perhaps than any of the others.

I cant believe how fast he has changed. I thought change would be alot slower. It will be interesting to see how things turn out. I didnt know until lately that koi changed thoughout thier life. I thought what you bought was what you got! Silly me

You know the saying,... you get what you paid for ;)

Some change more so than other's, some changes are good, some not so good.... bloodlines/genetics and variety all play a part....
