Ian and I have known each other since 1988, in early spring 1994 we got married.

We have three children, 2 boy, Rhyce and Taylor, and a girl, Lynnea. All our kids are involved in our hobbies and have made us proud regarding how much they have learned.

Our other "kids" are a tad furry..
- She-La is a collie mix we took into our family in 2003.
- Reba is a Rotti mix who came to us through Adopt-A-Rott in 2005.
- Zeuss is a male Rotti we adopted in October 2007. At that time he was 16 months old,... a BIG Puppy!
-We also have one feathered friend... a Budgie named is Jazzy-blue.

Background

We've been keeping fish for several years, ranging from South American cichlid's, small tropical's, and goldfish. Ever since I laid eyes on a childhood friends parents planted aquarium with cardinal tetra's and corydorus catfish, I've always wanted to have one. You could say I was hooked from that moment. My parents weren't into letting me have fish, so I had a long wait before I could get my first set up. Ian on the other hand had gotten to experience fish keeping throughout his childhood. Koi keeping has been in Ian's family for some time.water gardens

1996-2003 We lived in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada - zone 5b. There isn't a very long growing/ponding season here in Ontario, but we made the best of the time we had and thoughts of  incorporating a pond into the garden seemed a natural thing for us to do.... We were fortunate enough to have a good sized yard - which was a reverse pie lot, so our backyard seemed quite spacious - enough room for our 3 children to play and still be able to create lovely gardens. Our home and grounds had under gone several "face lifts", you could say that Ian and I aren't happy unless we are planning and changing something. It was all worth it though. Not only did we get satisfaction from what we'd accomplished, but our family and friends enjoyed it too.

Gardening is something we both love. It was only natural for us to add a water feature, a sort of "finishing'" touch to all the love and labour we'd poured into the yard over the years. On a sunny weekend in June, our 1st little water garden was created. koi pondI love the varieties of beautiful bog and aquatic plants that can be grown and the sound of water encouraging the wonderful birds to gather so we could enjoy them. Shortly after the pond was finished, we purchased a few small Goldfish and one small malaysian Koi. We were hesitant about buying the small Koi knowing what we had wasn't enough for keeping Koi, but it was a start, we couldn't help ourselves! By late August of we added another 800gallon pond to the 200gallon water garden in order to keep the few Goldfish and Koi we had acquired over winter.

2003 We moved to Newcastle, Ontario - about 35 minutes East of Toronto, Ontario. Our family of 5 was growing out of our Oshawa home and I had just started a new business. Our new home is sitting on 2.5 acres, plenty of room to grow - well just about anything!! HaHa
It's like starting all over again, the yard was bare but we got to work quickly making gardens and building ponds. As time goes I hope to share all this here in various pages of this web site.

Other Tidbits about Us

Besides gardening, ponding, and fish keeping we have a few other interests. Ian plays guitar and enjoys music very much. I am learning about web design and have really found that I like it - I now am responsible for 3 web sites. We both love sailing, camping, and many other outdoor activities with our children. Spending time with our families and friends is always cherished. Spring 2003 myself, Ian, and a few friends formed a koi club for our area - Central Ontario Koi & Pond Club - covering Toronto and surrounding areas.

We run a small general contracting business. Ian specializes in Commercial and Residential construction along with Finished Carpentry, and has many other talents - such as guitar building. I am responsible for the administrative end of the company. I enjoy being a "work at home" mom. In the spring of 2003 I started a new business supplying quality pond and koi products along with being the Canadian distributor of Evolution Aqua filtration systems. If you'd like to learn more about our new company please click on Canadian Koi and Pond at the bottom of this page.
